Mr. Barish fell in love with the old film, The Quiet Man, and set out to look for the bar that's in that movie. He's an expat (California by way of Long Island) who lives in Dublin with his Irish wife. The journey he takes brings him to lovely (and not so lovely) bars across the city of Dublin and out in to the Irish countryside. He has a wonderful way with words and the way he describes the people he meets along the way is worth the price of the book alone. As with most travel books, this one frequently strays off the main topic and into history, with some terrific factoids that absolutely delighted me. It made me want to get on a plane and trace his steps. I think you'll like this one.
