Mr. Junger spent five months living as a (non-shooting) soldier with a U.S. 2nd Battalion platoon in the Korengal valley, Afghanistan, which at the time, was the spearhead of the war. The book reads like a novel and I couldn't put it down. As he did with his earlier book, The Perfect Storm, Mr. Junger describes the characters so that you feel as if you know them. Mr. Junger's observations about brotherhood, human geography, and the fact that groups of 150 work best are priceless.
