General Shelton was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff but this memoir begins way before those days of national responsibility. It's the story of an American soldier who begins at the beginning and works his way to the top. He is not shy in stating his opinions on political and historical issues, and parts of this book book will have you dropping your jaw in wonder that such things went on during our lifetime. The book is neither left, nor right; it's purely American. Highly recommended.
