I wasn't quite sure what business I was even in at
that point. A friend recommended that I read "E-Myth" and when I did I
felt as though Michael Gerber was speaking directly to ME. You'll
probably feel the same. The main point of the book is that most people
start a business because they're upset with their old bosses. They
think they can do a better job and make all that money for themselves.
So they quit and start a little company and work out of the house.
Before long, they find themselves working twice as long and twice as
hard - for the same money. And the future looks pretty grim. That's the
E-Myth. You see, most of us start out by creating a JOB, not a
BUSINESS. Mr. Gerber shows you how to "work ON your business, not IN
your business." It's all about creating a system for your business,
rather than spending every day running around putting out fires. For
me, this book was like a dose of clear light. I immediately set a new
course for the company and things have gone really well for us ever
since. If you are just starting out - or if your business is not what
you thought it ought to be - If you're in your own business, you really should read this book. It can be one
of those life-changing reads.
