This is a book that's both tough to read and
impossible to put down. Her mother's revelation at the end shook me up
quite a bit. It would have been easier to take had it been fiction
rather than a true story, but there it was. You'll see what I mean if
you read this one. The memoir is a type of writing that has long
fascinated me because the writer is absolutely naked to the world. Such
is the case here. Mary Karr has brought us a beautifully written, and
in places, delightly funny book, but it is not an easy one to read
without squirming.
