Ultra water treatment
The customer had been using a nitrite closed loop treatment around 500 ppm concentration. It started leaking at a pressed plug connection. -
Corrosion
When I replumbed my old house with copper there were all sorts of prohibitions relating to direct contact with the few iron pipes I couldn't get to easily to replace. Now that I look at photos on the Wall, it seems that iron to copper is a common finding. No problem? -
No problem on true closed loop systems...
If you have an open potable system with lots of incoming oxygen, its a REAL problem. If you have a closed loop system, BUT have non oxygen barrier tubing, it's a real problem. Some inspectors don't recognize the principals of 02 elimination in closed loop systems and therefore require the use of dielectric unions, which eventually leak or create their own cell of corrosion, closing off the pipe. If the AHJ forces you to do something about dissimilar metals, go with a yellow brass nipple or valve between the dissimilar metals, a known proven method of isolation. MEIt's not so much a case of "You got what you paid for", as it is a matter of "You DIDN'T get what you DIDN'T pay for, and you're NOT going to get what you thought you were in the way of comfort". Ultra boiler leaking
A customer of mine had a Ultra 310 start to leak after 10 months of operation. His chemical treatment man said that there was a lot of electrolysis from the copper in the system. Has anyone else heard this? Most of my Ultra installations are copper piping. Tx, Tim
