Clean it up a little, it was a heating nightmare.

Here are some pics from a recent job.  The owner called me to replace four zone valves that were inoperable.   Their questions about whether the boiler was in proper order and how they could decrease operating costs led to discussions about boiler reset controls, variable speed pumping and better controls and zoning strategies.

After inspecting the Slant fin Galaxy (circa '79) the old clunker was firing nicely and was surprisingly clean.  No leaks or any signs thereof.

The flue damper motor was burnt up, but, that's an easy fix.  Not the same could be said of the piping arrangement though.  It was logical, it had worked for many years but probably not that well.  All four Honeywell four wire valves were shot.  They were also hub to hub with globe valves and drains, making their replacement next to impossible for the tame at heart.

After suggesting the needed repairs and the costs, the owner opted for the next best thing.  Replace all the boiler piping and get this thing whirling like a Rolls Phantom for the upcoming season.

Now components:  Taco ZVC-EXP, PC700, (4) Taco EBV-Zone valves, 4900 series air elimination and Taco VS-D"T" circulator,  Field Controls flue damper.

Here are the before and afters.

    Looks great.

Along with being aesthetically pleasing, it is obvious how much easier it will be for future maintenance and troubleshooting now that everything is laid out logically and cleanly.

I really appreciate this type of clean workmanship in plumbing and electrical work, such as conduit installation.

The electrical has been cleaned up quite a bit, no more birds nest of two wire.  picture taken before the wiring was done.

    Happy to report:

Well we have had a almost non-existent fall.  That being said; the owners have reported a 50% savings of fuel usage as compared to this time last year.  If the same numbers keep coming in the whole job will have performed as intended.

A little common sense can go a long way.  Thank you to all the guys on this wall....I have really learned a lot.
