Yes thats a taco air vent on a steam line. also yes thats gaskets bedded in RTV silicone, That makes them seal better , RIGHT???Cost is what you spend , value is what you get. -
I take it
someone visited home depot? -
No it was not Home Depot
They went to a professional wholesale house in a metropolitan area. The home owner is a member of another trade so they went where his friends in the heating business sent him. since this one did not leak he thought it was working. the cap was tight to stop the steam from escaping.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get. -
They didn`t do him
any favors did they.
At least they could have given him a model #. -
He had the old vent in hand
This is what baffles me, he had the old vent in his hand and showed it to the counter man.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get. -
We've seen that too
amazing how much better the system runs when you replace a Hoffman #79 with a Gorton #2 on a steam system.Steam, Vapor & Hot-Water Heating

You got it all wrong...
The guy was looking for a basement humidifier. Patent Pending. -
Actually he only got a pair of Vent rite # 75's
It is a very small system and it was a quick repair job just to get the heat going. Do not get me started on the burner issues or the burnt out fire rope along the top of the boiler. Yes Frank it works so much better now! J it did not humidify well the owner did know enough to close the cap thank goodness. Just some heat issues on that side of the house. Of course the other mainline vent was stuck wide open. clogged returns and poor vent placement does not bode well for the new vents. But this will help until spring.
They must have thought the 75 on the old vent was a 79. Thanks for the insight Frank. Does it concern you that as the years go by you get better at understanding why these knuckleheads do what they do? I get concerned some time.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get. -
