boiler shuts down
Hi all, I installed a utica boiler in my home, it seems to work OK sometimes, then the low water cut off switch will shut the boiler down. The switch is installed on supply side before the air purge about 18in above boiler. The system has 7 zones one for hot water, it has purge valves installed at the pumps on return side. It seems all the air is out of the system but why would the boiler keep shutting down. Thanks for the help -
Cavitation?
It maybe with the pumps on the returns they may be making the probe go dry as they suck in air over it. Or it could be a probe for a steam boiler that is going through a test sequence. Photos and model numbers would help clear this up I think.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get. -
ditto
need some pics, and more info. Could just be a defective LWCO. -
With "pumps on return side"
you're definitely asking for air problems. It's possible that the pumps are expanding air bubbles near the LWCO and tripping it.
What type of heat emitters do you have- baseboard, cast-iron radiators, etc?Steam, Vapor & Hot-Water Heating

I may have put some pipe dope on threads but i was very careful not to get it all over. Is it possible to remove the coupling behind the LWCO and add a tee with a boiler drain valve to remove any air. -
lwco
probe on lwco is grounded out. find a another location or change aquastat to a hydrostat control also on top of boiler should have a air vent install next to supply piping is a 3/4 tap -
boiler shuts down
It has a automatic vent on purge valve. -
boiler shuts down
Joe, thanks for the info. There is a 3/4 in plug installed in boiler, I will pick up a vent and install in that hole, Thanks, give me a few days -
lot of zones
With all of those zones how did you insure that you purge all of them properly? Does that flue pipe have a draft regulator in it? -
direct vent
no draft control used for that setup
