    This says a lot!

"are all just pissed away through the mismanagement of time and resources by the typical contractor"
Most wholesalers use "common business sense" Whereas most contractors use "installer sense", since that is how they got into the trade in the first place.  An other way to see this is wholesale owners are trained in the business world. Most contractors are trained with a wrench in their hand, and little out and out "business training".
I was in the trade as a journeyman for 42 years, and the contractors I worked for all were taught in the trade with a wrench in their hand, not in 'business" I tried to get some of them to hire a business management person and have the owner go back to the tools, but no way would they give up their desk to some suit guy.
I was known for my expertise in the trade, However every one of the contractors I wroked for, after I left their employ went down the tube.
Bottom line, If your going to operate a business, become trained in the "business of that trade" and leave the wrenches in the hands of the journeymen .or visa versa. Its two different businesses all together!

    .

I think about this all the time. I've been in the field 29 years, mostly as a tech. I did do a few years in project sales and as a GM. No way was my time in the field helpful in being a good GM, as I wasn't a very good GM in my opinion.  There is another level that is certainly needed to operate a company properly and profitably, and my head isn't set up for that, at least not so far.

    Hmmm

I think I sense an "Ellen Rohr" moment coming on!  Dan's made her books available.  She takes the scary out of numbers and makes them your friend.

    Yours,  Larry
