BIAW

The BIAW is a right-wing lobbying agency that has had a stranglehold on the state of WA building codes.  They are against anything that costs money, even if it makes sense.   When I sat on the state building code plumbing technical advisory group, they opposed pressure/temp balanced shower valves, because of the $75. cost increase to an average home, despite proven risks of scalding. 
As a member of King County Master Builders, I've objected to their use of BIAW as a lobbying agent.  BIAW is currently involved in a large lawsuit for misuse of funds.

We have had those valves as code for 30 years now

in the end they save the state money and they save the consumer money because the balanced water temps mean safety for the consumer and less hospital bills for the state. Penny wise and pound foolish. No matter their political leanings they are foolish to not move forward with a more comprehensive code.
