Smart metering - needs feedback (and coercion??)

So many of the Great & Good imagine that consumers only need a 'smart' meter to display energy costs more intelligibly and they'll suddenly turn into Model Energy Savers!

You'd have thought that even they would have noticed by now that the consumer is a lazy, fickle beast, very easily bored and often totally amnesiac!

Put a shiny new display module on the lobby wall and they'll look at it hourly for the first couple of days, daily for the next week or so.  But after a couple of months it's just part of the wallpaper and any energy-saving activity based on it stops!

Come on guys - it's not Rocket Science!  It's obvious from the ultimate fate of a million other consumer products!

And failing to mention Google Powermeter as one of the more effective feedback tools in this topic area was a bit of an oversight!
