Riello Lesson Learned
A few days ago I got a no heat call on a nearly new boiler with a Riello Burner.
The installers had not changed the oil line or filter and the oil system was plugged.
So I changed the b4 and the ssc126G strainer and primed it up.
It just ran and ran, in pre-purge, would not signal the oil valve,and didn't lock out either.
I went though everything twice and was very frustrated .
I'll come back tomorrow and tell you the embarrassingly simple answer

That white look'n cylinder deal thats right infront of the control relay, kinda under it a bit. Its a coil that some how runs the motor (these motors run off of 46 volts) . If its shot the burner will be stuck in pre purge for ever, and will never fire. I think you can use your electrical meter to test for resistance on it. And i remember seeing my old man using a light bulb on a pig tail to run it, a 60 watt bulb is the same resistance or something like that.Theext step is to remove the cad cell and see if it fires, as a scewed up cad cell can also give the same syptoms. Then focus on the coil? Someone like Bill will know what the resistance value should be on the coil.........

was it
running but not firing when you got there, or did you have to reset it? Could be a few things goin on here. What control is on it? I haven't seen the latest Riello control, but maybe they have a priming mode like Honeywell/Beckett controls do that will run like 4 minutes without locking out. Curious here. I don't thing you are back feeding. I'd also check control mount plate for bent pins, crossed connections, etc

The answer
I moved my drop light a bit further away.
It was seeing some stray light, which prevented it from coming out of pre-purge.
I had hung my drop light about two feet directly above the blast tube.
I won't do that again.

Riello purging tip
I install Riello burners almost exclusively. And service even more of them.
Here is an oil purging tip. Take the primary off. leave the drawer assembly cover in place. Place your jumper clips on terminals 5 & 6 for the primary. Turn on the service switch. The motor will run and the oil valve will open, but it cannot fire. You also don't have to fuss with the safety timing. When you are done, close the bleeder, pull the jumpers and put the transformer back on and fire it.
I do this 3 or 4 times a day sometimes and it never fails.

Another tip
Leave the primary in . Let the burner run . Right when you hear the " click " of the igniter , hit the reset button . It'll cycle again without waiting for the reset timeout . Good for priming if you think it'll only need 3 or 4 resets .
