    powerpile generator

    what is the block on a powerpiles purpose ?

    I assume you are talking about

    say a Honeywell Q 313B with a junction block connector as part of the generator wire?

    If so it is so an auxiliary limit can be attached which functions as an ECO (Energy Cut-Off) to shut down the entire pilot and main burner on FHW boilers and steam boilers. On FHW boilers it is an additional limit set around 220 to 230 degrees. Both Honeywell and White Rodgers actually had relays with the switch as a part of the insert into the well along with the regular capillary. White Rodgers called there's a "Pepi Switch".

    On steam there would be an extra pressuretrol wired directly to the junction block and set to knock off pilot and main burner gas when the pressure got up near 14 pounds just before the "pop" safety would blow.

    You will also see these used on some pool heaters and other type appliances as a back up safety.
