    change hot water pipes in basement

    have existing GRAVITY system installed in 1922.  System was converted to pumped system in 1975, with addition of new boiler and pump.
    old pipes in basement leave about 4ft 6 inches of head room due to fall of pipes for gravity feed.
    I want to raise the pipes to set on the ceiling ( about 27 inches), yet lower them under my steps, so I can change the step riser distance.
    that would create a dip in the pipes of 8 inches under the steps.  I figured I would install a drain in that section of pipe for the return and supply.
    is this possible to do since it is now a pumped system?

    moving pipes

     A drop in one pipe should not effect the flow in the system if properly balanced but it sounds like a lot of work, Why not repipe the system with PEX. Raising all that steel pipe is time consuming and difficult if you are not properly equipped and experienced to do so
