Is it possible?
On a 15t GeoThermal unit . The compressor discharge RotaLock nut became loose and leaked out freon/oil/water ,and there is a ruptured flat plate heat exchanger. Is it possible the RotaLock nut was "walked " off by some kind of hydraulic hammer effect ? -
Very Rare
Very rare, but I did see it once on a 10-ton pump. The manufacturer mentioned that this might have happened because the compressor mounting bolts were too loose and the compressor was free to move more than intended. HmmmmmmmmmEugene -
anything is possible
Techman as posted anything is possible ,about a month ago lost a charge on one circuit of a 20 ton rooftop ,multizone package unit searched hi and low only found a super tiny leak on a cap tube for a pressure switch.Wham 2 weeks later flat again ended up finding the brazed factory compressor connection had a super mircoscopic crack discharge line and no sign of oil .Had to remove the piece of copper and reclean the compressor fitting it would not take any silver solder or braze but was even funnier was the fact that there was not any braze in the hub of the fitting or the pipe not a trace. We had really looked for this leak with all means electronic leak ,bubbles ,haline torch ,ultra violet dye and hi pressure nitrogen pressure test yet we missed it .Bottom line we found it but it only goes to show that any thing is possible and we all are just human .Peace and good luck clammy
