Weil McLain Steam Boiler Failure
First time posting. Weil Mclain WGO5 Rear section cracking every year. 2 pipe steam, Wet return W/ Condensate reciever & dom. coil. Checked near boiler piping seams to be correct from WM piping diagram 24" above water line, hartford loop. Any sugestions????? -
How about
Some pic's of the close boiler piping to include front and back views....:) -

Forgot to metion a call for heat all the time from a stuck zone valve for the last couple of years/year? Reciever wired wrong. Found LWCO not cutting off, bad ground (1-7-2010) All kinds of stuff. -
when
you say cracking every year, how many years has it been replaced? And how was all this not found prior? -

sounds like
they now have someone who wants to service it right. Did the boiler have an auto feed or did someone have to manually add water? Could it have run low or dry fired? -

This reminds me...
I need to buy a PH meter.
It probably goes without saying that you'll be checking EVERYTHING before installing a new boiler.
Water quality, fresh water usage, steam leaks, proper piping, etc...

Uhhhh, wait a minute
this is a WGO-5?
On a STEAM system?
Shouldn't it be an SGO-5? Or better yet, a MegaSteam 513 or 629?"Reducing our country's energy consumption, one system at a time"

nice
never even noticed that. Hence why your the man to see about steam. ;) -
WGO-5
Good of you to notice Steaner, and a WGO-5 doesn't have a tapping on the back. Only the SGO has one on the bottom back. How in the heck did they pipe that? I would really like to see pictures of thet. -
Had to many
Sorry, Boiler is a SGO-5 -
Have another one
cause you still remember it's a Weil-McLain ;-)
I agree, take some pics and post them. There has to be a reason those sections are cracking, and the piping might have something to do with it.
Also, is the burner properly set up and does it have the right nozzle? Is there a target wall at the back of the firing zone?"Reducing our country's energy consumption, one system at a time"

Reciever
If your cond reciever was constantly being fed fresh cold water and if the feed line to the boiler has not been throttled properly, it could very easily cold shock the boiler when the pump kicks on. Remember those pumps, when not throttled, can kick out alot of water into a low pressure boiler. The Steam Whisperer (Formerly Boilerpro)

Waiting For Section
Will put up pics when I go back. Reciever is a reciever only W/Float. VXT? Water Feeder waits10 mins unless float on reciever is full powering pump, on reciever, filling boiler with condensate. :-) BYOB
