Do you laugh or do you RUN!!

One of my customers had me come down and look at this system that the homeowner said wasn't working very well.  My CO meter was registering in the kitchen upstairs.
    We suggested she leave now.

    Wow!

Where was the CO coming from? What happens to the vent connector when it goes into the clay? The expansion tank is doing a lot of good on the relief line The pump is pumping the wrong direction. So what was the end result of this call?

    Do you run....

If you notice, the boiler vent goes into a chimney sleeve, and the water heater vent goes into the chimney.  to add insult to injury, the water heater vent is sloping down to the chimney.  Fortunately, I always carry my CO meter with me into a boiler room.  The CO came from the heater and chimney connection.
My customer re-piped the boiler, their chimney sub-contractor re-piped the boiler and heater vent including a properly sized sleeve.

    Pumping Away?

It looks like the flue connector goes into a flexible flue liner - with a high temp caulk seal.
At least the pump is set up for "pumping away!"

    Do you run...

Your right about the boiler flue, and the heater flue went into the chimney with the chimney top covered with the sleeve plate.
The circ. was pumping away from the bottom of the unit keeping the cooler return water flowing across the aqua-stat.  This kept the boiler on well past the a-stat set point.  When the boiler shut off, it made a heck of a racket.  I'm suprised the homeowner didn't notice water on the floor from the relief valve.

    curious

Did it have another expansion tank some place else? Or am I seeing that wrong and it's not piped into the P.R.V??

The only expansion tank was piped to the tee on the outlet of the relief valve.  The pipe going to the bottom of the air scoop is from the cold water feed/BFP.

    Entire system need work.

I especially like how each joint was brazed instead of soft 95/5.  Actually this entire system can be professionally corrected to look good and work even better with little effort.  Yea, I have seen the water tank flue,.......( Whom ever did that should be barred from practicing in this field.  "The only thing that flows down hill is water and S--t.
