Now I understand....
...why some of the pro's here get frustrated with the DIY crowd...
I didnt really think someone actually would take the time to set up a mess like this and expect it to function properly. Said he planned this out for a year and a half too....
(I saw this on a DIY help forum I occasionally visit.. yeah, he was there because it doesnt work right) -
ok...
have to ask...on top of everything else, what does the boiler vent into? -
I do not think it matters where it vents into...
provided it does not go into living space, even indirectly. I would include a garage as living space.
However, it seem likely to violate Weil-McLains instruction for combustion air and exhaust venting. They want those two pipes within about 12 inches of one another so that if wind is blowing, there is very little pressure drop between them. Sort of the same idea as closely spaced Ts. Since they are going in different directions, this is surely wrong, even if it does not go into the childrens' bedroom. W-M also specify the usual stuff about not locating it next to the gas meter, too close to windows and vents, and so forth. -
hah!
Beats the hell outta me... Probably a childs bedroom, granny's oxygen line, or possibly their meditation room. :-) -
it appears
that it transition's to metal. Maybe it's just appearance...This post was edited by an admin on December 3, 2011 12:55 PM. -
p/s
Can a primary/secondary setup work well like this? The primary being one large loop, as opposed to using closely spaced tees, that is.... -
Primary-secondary...
I think it could work like that. It is not how Weil-McLain show it in their installation manuals, though. They have just one pair of closely-spaced Ts, and the loads are in the secondary in parallel. From the picture, there are two pairs of closely-spaced Ts, so the first one will get hotter water than the second if both are running at the same time. -
Venting
If it is venting into the kids room at least they will go to bed and stay there. -
mess
It is a mess and there are inappropriate materials used but besides that I can't see a reason why it wouldn't "work" at least for a couple of years. except maybe the funny bypass bit in the lower left on the basement loop, what's with that?
btw, I like the chunky looking blue wire conduit. This post was edited by an admin on December 8, 2011 5:43 PM. -
.......
the blue flex is interesting.... It actually didnt work when he fired it up.. There was no heat to his second floor... That's how he wound up on one of my construction forums.
I know what you mean though.. I've seen some scary hackjobs holding up houses for years.
