new primary

Would the Honeywell r7284u be a good replacement for the 8184 control? Beckett af burner about 25 years old  Warm air system. Would want to go to interupted ignition.

I'd use the R7184A

and add a delay solenoid valve to the line between the pump and the burner. This will give you cleaner starts and stops, which will reduce sooting.

You will need to have some sort of fuel solenoid whether it be in the form of changing your fuel pump to a clean-cut, or add a solenoid valve on the pressure side of the pump. These controls will only work if it has control over the fuel as well as the ignition

GenSys

The only primary I use any more is the Beckett GenSys primary.  You can get them with no programing in them for a direct replacement for the 8184G or you can add a Beckett Clean Cut pump and do a pre and post purge system.

7284 replaced 7184

7284 replaced 7184 control. although you can still get the 7184.
7284u is a great control the beckett is nice too. but like the honeywell better
7284u does not need clean cut or oil valve to be used. although a clean cut pump would make it run that much cleaner

Honeywell Vs Beckett

I have used the honeywell primary before.  I like the Beckett GeniSys.  The honewell does not give you cycle by cycle read outs of what is going on.  It just here is your averages.  The GeniSys does not need to be used with a Clean cut pump.  You can use it as a direct replacement for the 8184G.  You just get one with no pre or post purge programed into it.  Then if in the future if the customer upgrades to a clean cut pump you can then use your display and program what ever you want into it.  Plus the GeniSys does not have the display right there tempting the customer to make changes.  Not to mention that the GeniSys runs a little lower in price.  Oh and if you are using the GeniSys with a forced air system with AC you can get the AC ready kit and not have to put a fan center on. 

7284 vs beckett

After extensive research on both, im going with the Honeywell 7284u. Not going to install  a clean cut at this time, but if i do i can change the set up on the control.
  Also thinking about changing  from a typical "off the bottom of tank gravity oil feed"  to a top of tank suction line and use the Tigerholm  flexible floating suction line and their anti-siphon valve. In addition to this im planning on installing duel spin on filters in the line.  Has anyone used these items, and is it worth doing this?  My reason here is more for environmental safety than anything else. Also would i need to use a tiger loop on both burners? (furnace and water heater)

Tiger loop

I always like to use a tiger loop when running an over head line. With two burners I'd look at two tiger loop ultra's. That's a tiger loop with a spin on filter already attached to the bottom. Also remember to put the bypass plugs in the return side of the oil pump when running the returns to the tiger loop
