Conversion steam to forced air(??)

For general interest.  Neighbor has a Dunham two-pipe vapor system, circa 1928, heating (or was) a 2000 sq ft, two story house.  Heating until a recent episode of LWCO failure and a dry fired boiler which is (was) an EG-75...... a big one!

What followed was a visit by the local fire department, police and medical rescue team.

Neighbor has now completed repair by installing a forced air heating plant.  When asked why she didn't replace boiler for either vapor or water, her response was the forced air system is more "efficient".  She used the word 'efficient' instead of 'comfort'.

All that cast iron going to waste.

My house, built at same time, has the identical heating plant except for a EG-55 supplying about 720 sq ft radiation.  Oh yes..... I try to maintain my system by regular blow-downs and LWCO tests ....things I learned from my plumber and you folks on the Wall.  A couple visits by Christian Egli several years ago was a big plus!!

Those who wish for efficiency or comfort from forced hot air systems will get neither.

I would consider adding a secondary LWCO of the probe type to your boiler.  Those float type LWCOs tend to cycle out and fail, esp. if there are a number of crypto leaks on the system.
