    Mega Steam

We installed this Burnham Mega Steam last fall.  It replaced on old Kewanee steel boiler that had been out of commission for a few years.  The owner was using a wood stove to heat this side of the house.

The other wing of the house had an identical Kewanee that we replaced with a V-8 several years ago (Mega Steam was not available then).

Here is a link to details of this project:

    Looking Good!

so was the Kewanee's burner mounted at the rear, like some old Nationals were?

    Aqua-Booster

Thanks for the comments, David.  The tankless coil is used as an aqua-bosster during the winter feeding an an electric wtare heater.  The boiler is shut off in the summer and the electric tank provides DHW.  I agree that an indirect would have been the better choice.

Real nice looking job Dan. Have you talked to Burnham lately if they will ever consider testing megasteam with gas burner??

    Nice and Clean Install

You do your industry proud Dan.

"Almost" makes me wish Lochinvar made Steamers.   Of course, any of our water boilers can instantly be "turned into" a steam boiler if....misapplied. :)   That would then mean we would need a manual about the aerodynamics as it flies thru the air...

    Best,

    Paul

What I'd really LOVE to see...

I think it wold be fantastic to take a Burnham Megasteamer boiler, and drop it in the middle of Lochinvars gas lab, and let your technicians retrofit one of your burner/smart controls on it and run it based on the corelating temperature/pressures of steam, allowing full modulation and see what kind of efficiency could be seen.

I know it would make a lot of people here real happy. I still don't understand WHY Burnham hasn't done this already...

    Opportunity only knocks once...

It's not so much a case of "You got what you paid for", as it is a matter of "You DIDN'T get what you DIDN'T pay for, and you're NOT going to get what you thought you were in the way of comfort". Borrowed from Heatboy.

I never get the same answer twice when I ask.... apparently someone at Burnham just doesn't want to, and is in a position to block it.

    Funny Paul.

I actually saw one of your Mod/Cons rocking and rolling due to misapplication yesterday.  It was a 501.  Scares the hell out of you for a few seconds.

    Nice work Dan.

    Feeder

Dan, how do you feed water into the boiler? Do you use the #67MM? Do you instruct the owner to blow down the appliance?

    Feeder

    Hi Paul,

There is no automatic feeder.  The boiler is manually fed.  No #67 on this one.  The boiler came with a Hydro-Level probe style LWCO mounted on the front of the boiler.

    Beautiful install Dan !

Really nice pipework ! Do you have the nips on hand or thread them at the site ? Been begging for a power hand threader for years ............

    Pipe

    Hi Ron,

I try to order cut nipples for our steam jobs as it speeds up the work.  We invariably will still have to cut a few pieces so I still send the Ridgid 300 to the job.

We have a handheld "mule" but it struggles with anything over 1-14" .
