Storage tank with old oil boiler?

I am currently using a 1954 boiler for my home heating. Would it help my efficiency to connect a storage tank to my system? The tank would then be drawn upon when heat was needed. I think this would reduce how often the boiler would have to cycle-similar to the idea with many wood boilers.

    Why not?

    Sounds like a great idea!

    As usual, it depends

Boilers of that age are quite high mass by today's standards.  Need a heat loss calculation and a radiation survey before we can offer meaningful advice.

    Storage NO

A small buffer tank maybe. A full evaluation by an expert would be my first step.

    I think...

your time and money would be best served in replacing the boiler that is over a half century old.
