Old School Thermal Solar question? (5 Posts)

Lordan
Hello: The only thing I could find on Lordan was in a 1984 SRCC directory. The collector was copper with aluminum fins, painted black. It used a frame made of galvanized steel. Copper fins on copper tube tended to hold up better and black chrome was a better performer than black paint. Extruded aluminum frames held up better than steel, particularly in wet areas. So, have a good look at the collectors and frames for general corrosion and any evidence of freezing. Find out what was run in them. If glycol, look closely for signs of pitting. These were not particularly efficient collectors compared to other rated collectors. But,if all looks good with their condition, why not? Hope that helps. Yours, Larry -
Old School Solar Collector Question?
For any of you who played around with thermal solar back in the day... Anyone know anything about the older Lordan solar collectors (manufactured in Israel)? Performance? Quality? I have an opportunity to pick some up for fairly cheap but I don't want to add to the pile of junk that isn't worth using already on my back 40! They look to be in decent shape. Thanks! -

I need to replace Lordan D-28 solar syphon system and it's "flat roof mount". Can you help or redirect my interest. I'm in the Turks and Caicos islands. Phone 809-946-5365. Many Thanks Iain Thomson. -
