honeywell control problem
Hi,The problem i'm having is about a month ago I had turned on my furnace just to make sure I was set for winter.I ran it for about 10 min.,it was fine,I shut it down. This week I turn it on and just here a click, which is the circ. pump relay. The oil/ign. relay isn't energizing. If I hold it in it run's and cycles fine.the control box is a Honeywell r8182d all in one. What should I be looking for or is the box shot,or could I wire in a solid state box in place of these relays. thanks Jack -
R8182
Sounds like a weak relay. They are magnetic and can go weak and not pull in if off for a long period. don't mess with the wiring or try to replace relays. You buy a lot of liability if you mess with the control. If there is a call for heat and you have no power at B1, replace the control. I usually do away with the 8182 and use a 8124 and a cad cell relay. Less money and more up to date. To Learn More About This Professional, Click Here to Visit Their Ad in "Find A Professional" -
Thanks for your help,I do have power at b-1,the funny thing is that I had turned it on a month ago for 10 min. and it ran fine.Thats why i'm baffled. thanks again Jack

You say you have power at B1. If you do, then the relay must be pulled in. Make sure to check the power between B1 and B2 to confirm 120V. If you have power there, then the 8182 is not the problem. Must be in the wiring to the burner or at the burner itself. If you have to manually work the relay to get power to B1, then it sounds like a bad control. If the boiler is cold it should make the burner come on just to maintain temperature. Is the unit "off" on safety, if you push the button does it start? The fact that you turned it on a month ago and ran it doesn't really mean anything. Everything breaks sometime!

Thanks for your reply, when I turn on the safety switch the circ. relay pulls in,but not the ign. relay.Pushing in the reset doesn't do anything, but if I put a wedge against the ign. relay, the unit runs and cycles fine as if the ign. relay isn't magnetized.I just don't want to spend $350.00 for a new box if it isn't the problem.Thank you for all your help. I see that if was to use the 8124 the R has been changed to an L in the part no.,but there are a few diff. model's to choose from. How do I decide, and what else do I need. thanks again,Jack

The 8182 has the reset button built in. the 8124 does not. You can use the 8124, but also need to add a separate safety control, like and 8184 or a 7184. Sounds like you need a proffesional to look at it.
