Congratulations!!

Nice!

@ March 31, 2012 6:06 PM in Amp draw of a Taco 007

You do some of the nicest "tight" installs. I love your work!

UGH!!!

@ March 20, 2012 8:34 AM in Power Gas Conversion Burner Training

Right near Easter and Passover. Traffic on 95 will be a killer for me.
When is the next one? I REALLY want to attend.

What's that noise?

@ March 20, 2012 8:27 AM in What do you think of

I can hear the chimney tiles falling now...

Same Same

@ March 11, 2012 10:48 AM in Time spent on Mod/Con maintenance

About three hours.
Full disassemble, clean and setup with  the analyzer.
Munchies and Pinnacles get an appointment with the laptop for history lesson.
Gas pressures always checked, drains always flow checked.

Always. I hate going back.

Only..

@ March 7, 2012 9:52 AM in Multimeters

Fluke.  Only Fluke.
I have at least a dozen. All different. For what I do, a meter is the most important tool besides a screwdriver.
Spend the money once. Buy the best.

WOW!

@ March 6, 2012 11:00 PM in have Hot Water but no Steam!! 1 Boiler

I was just in Brooklyn three hours ago on Berkeley Pl.  Had all my stuff with me too.
Gotta start reading the board on my phone.

Minerals?

@ March 1, 2012 10:37 AM in How often should a steam boiler be cleaned?

Wouldn't hot water tend to have less minerals? When the water is heated aren't many of the minerals precipitated out and left in the form of crap in the bottom of the heater?

Vaprorvac...

@ March 1, 2012 10:07 AM in One supply valve effects other rads

You say your pipe runs through a cold garage. Is the pipe insulated?

Flue pipe. If that's what you call it.

@ March 1, 2012 9:57 AM in New boiler, new banging

Does that poor excuse for flue pipe REDUCE in size right at the boiler?
Where is this job located?
I don't know, I've only been doing this for a few decades, but where in the US is flexible venting allowed?
And, running CSST right to the sppliance?
Was the contractor named "Hack Job Harry?"

Longevity

@ February 29, 2012 9:52 PM in Life Expectancy of CO Detectors

I was always told five years max.
We change ours every two years.

@ February 24, 2012 9:48 AM in New Amtrol Boiler Mate running out of hot water

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I have two of the 41 gallon Boiler Mates handling a 8 family apartment house. They NEVER run out.
What is the question of whether to use a mixing valve or not? I was under the impression that it was code.
We routinely run the tanks at 150-165. We always use a mixing valve. Always have.

Did you....

@ February 24, 2012 9:21 AM in Leaking Bushings - Hot Water Boilers

I've noticed with larger bushings made "elsewhere", there is usually a line that looks like a seam running across the threads. Always thought it was where the dies stopped. Perhaps it is a seam.
How about a nipple and reducer coupling?

Where in NY

@ February 22, 2012 8:47 AM in Has anyone had problems with Dunkirk Boilers?

I'm in Westchester.

Thanks Mark

Replacement parts

@ February 20, 2012 8:52 PM in Oil vs. gas heat dilemma

Whatever you decide to buy, make SURE you can get replacement parts for the unit you choose.
And don't just believe what the local parts warehouse says. Ask them what parts they have in STOCK.
6 weeks out on one particular brand of boiler. Good thing there is four of them.

Just kidding. Bring on the pics.

I really appreciate it.

Smallest Gas/oil Burner

@ February 13, 2012 1:19 PM in Smallest Gas/oil Burner

Lately, I've had requests for gas/oil retrofit burners. ( It seems that, if there is an oil burning appliance in the house, the oil tank does not have to be removed.)
Does anyone make a dual fuel appliance that can be properly spec'd for smaller units?
I've been involved in 125-150 HP stuff, but the smaller commercial and residential systems seem to garner no interest from manufacturers.
I have on my desk, at least three units in the 3-9 gallon range that could become jobs if the product existed. My only option would be to recommend a gas only solution.

Try This

@ February 9, 2012 8:11 PM in Does anyone know of any piping method

Tie all the returns in to one properly sized pump.
Use thermostatic mixers on the supply side to get your temps.
Balance very carefully.
