Tim, Even with the combustion air from outside some manufactures will Void the warranty if chemicals are present!

Autodailer

@ March 7, 2009 5:42 PM in remotely controlled thermostat

yes, i use the Autodailers from Controlled Products... You can interface two thermostats (one at normal 68 F,and one other at a reduced temp. ) you may call into the system and take a main room from a unoccupied to a occupied stage! This " auto dailer" will also call three phone numbers when there is a low temp/high temp/batteries alarm/power failure..you may also check the status on the house. To bad you are installing a Polaris, i do not really like this "Boiler" If you were installing a Viessmann you could lower your overall house temperature via this "autodailer' And then again you may be able to interface a "tekmar" control to your polaris and call into the Tekmar via the autodailer. Your Heating expert needs to control the temp going into the floor anyway so he shall be able to interface the Auto dailer to the tekmar good luck!

Yes we do use a Tif and CO when we enter! And if the propane was leaking that can be very dangerous even if some time has pasted and the basement was "aired out"!

Boiler or Furnace?

@ March 7, 2009 4:35 PM in installing tankless hot water heater

What kind of Heat source do you have for the House? A Furnace(Scorched Air)or a boiler with Baseboard? If you have a Boiler then you are better off with a Indirect fired Waterheater

ISH Pre Update,Hey Dan

@ March 7, 2009 3:43 PM in ISH Update

I am getting excited and know that the six others from Colorado that are flying Lufthansa out of DIA on Monday are too! I will be attending it for Tu/We/Th/Fr not Saturday as it will most likely be very crowded! I will be visiting with some manufactures like Sotin/ Mannesmann/Broetche/Wilo/Viessmann and i am curious to see which American company's are showing off as well! Monday we are invited to go to Viessmann Werke! We are staying in Usingen which is not far from Bad Homburg Dan can we post Pix of this event and do we have to edit which ones? We will keep it Tasteful/or try not to "Offend" anyone, but you know that the Germans are not "Prude" and years ago the ladies were looking very good. Maybe we shall meet somewhere at the Messe! Paul and Homedepot are going to be somewhere ? I'd like to meet the East Coaster Wallies as well! you know i used to live in Closter NJ! As for the Meeting Places (at the American Flag?) or is there a Hot spot/Meeting place? then we can have some Licher bier or do you like Binding bier or Apfelwein better? Richard :-)

Well said

@ March 7, 2009 2:29 PM in High Mass Solar Storage

By thinking this way we can a least "offset" some of the Energy needed for the world's "Requirement's" I have been labeled all kinds of different way's in the past ( socialist, or being a fan of Dictatorships) just for mentioning things like " Yearly Mandated Combustion test" with the possibly of the system being redtagged or even shut down.. I still do not understand why some got there panties in a bunchkin over this and yet freely accept and mandated yearly Automotive emissions test (Grumpy old dogs do not learn new Tricks) You just keep up the positive attitude, Richard :-)

With jp

@ March 7, 2009 1:57 PM in unvented gas heaters

No go..Chemicals and Saw dust will be a problem! like jp said you shall have the Combustion air from outside! And even with the the air coming from outside most good manufactures will void the warranty of the boiler if pool chemicals are even just stored in the same room that the boiler is installed at! As far as i understand Chlorine turns into Hydrochloric acid when it goes thru the combustion chamber! maybe someone on the wall can confirm this?

VERY Aggressive

@ March 5, 2009 5:11 PM in Condensate Neutralizing

I second ME with his statement, and i have also seen leach fields that needed replaced because of 8 years of condensate! Cost of making your own Neutralizer = Well under $100 Cost of Replacing CU/Cast Iron embedded in concrete $$$$? Cost of new leach field in our environment(Rockie Mtn)= $50.000+ Is it worth taking those Risks? Our area is even thinking of MANDATING the installs of neutralizer's with Condensing equipment! I am not tiring to offend anyone but:Just like the watersheds to the East/West off of our beautiful divide i Guess "new"ways of heating has to travel from Europe/Canada to the Mid west then East/West, that is kinda the pattern that i have been seeing in the Heating Industries.. :-)

Into the 80's per european standards

@ March 2, 2009 11:13 PM in Pro press

Some of the Joints that we Pressed back in the 80's are still Leak free Mannesmann /Geberit Mappress and some good Italian Pressable fittings out there, some may be under other names over here... Zink/ Metall is the way! (It is cheaper that CU, and why use CU if you are not worried about None OX ?) Radman is taking a liking on Rothenberger and i cannot blame him. I will make a decision after the ISH depending on the support in the USA

When i lived in Closter NJ around 1990 i pumped our tank out and gave the oil to the neighbor, then i dug the tank up pulled it, cut it in half captured the sludge, wiped it out had the local authorities inspect it and scraped the to half's. Back then a job like this was a couple grand..
