I agree with you, I have been with them for about 1 year. I have looked at at least 100 jobs. However I have gotten about 15 good jobs. The longer you are on and the more feedback you get from satisfied customers the better you stand out from your competion. I also think people think they will get a instant quote online and then find out they are being refered at the end of the survey. However I feel this is an inexpensive advertisment compared to the Yellow Pages and also the internet will soon be the only advertising (thats my opinion). You can also narow your customers and your service area.
Allthough I have't got all the jobs I have gotten call backs from unsatisfied customers that werent hppy with the contractor thsy choose and I have gotten calls for other services I preforme.
Stick with it.
Boiler estimate from 1938
@ February 13, 2010 9:32 PM in Boiler estimate from 1938
Dan,I have a customer in Thomaston CT, They have a boiler house that has 3 Bigelow Boilers with Ray oil burners. (The building was once Seth Thomas Clocks, a lot of history in the building) Running on #6 fuel oil. The boilers and burners are in the 1920-1930 era. They are still original and still run. They are steam fire tubeboilers with brick fireboxes. They use the steam for a platting operation and for heating the building. They are the biggest and oldest I have ever seen. I preform service for the company when the boilers go down or need adjustment. Another company does the anual cleaning of the fire tubes. They are currently converting the building to gas unit heaters.
When I first started servicing the boilers the maintenance man brought me to a file cabinet in the boiler room. He said we had to go to the clasic literature section. There I found a Ray oil burner manuel. I use this for setting up damper linkage and oil pump pressures.
Anyway. I was at the facility on Friday looking for the Ray Burner manuel and I came across an original copy estimate from the Babcock & Wilcox Co( 85 Liberty ST New York, NY). dated 1938 for boiler repacement with coal firing. It was on onion paper and still in great shape. I had the maintance man make me a photo copy and I have scanned the image and wanted to give you a copy.
If you are ever up this way I can take you by to see the boiler room.
I posted this in this section because I didn't know were else to post to.
Enjoy.

Weil Mclain Series 80 Steam boiler
@ May 28, 2009 8:43 PM in Weil McLain Series 80 boiler for steam aplication
I am in the procces of replaceing a stem boiler in an older shop. It has a Burnham V809 and it has failed due to lack of maintenece. The section failed at the water line. I have always prefered a Burnham boiler ina commercial aplication. My supplyer of choice is a Weil Mclain dealer and I have proposed a Weil McLain eries 80 9 section oil fired with a carlin oil burn Low/high/ low operation. I am looking for opinons on the Series 80 Boiler.Boiler pilot

I would recomend having a contractor installing a electronic ignition and ask about installing a vent damper. This will increase the boilers effciency. It may cost a bit to install but you will save in the long run. Good investmentThermocouple

Check how the flame is touching the thermocople. if the flame is touching more than the top 3/8-1/2" from the top it will prematurly burn out he unit. I learned this from experience. when you replace the thermocople check and see if there are instructions. you can raise or lower the thermocple. good luck@ May 1, 2009 10:34 AM in American made products
I am looking for heating products, valves, fittings, circs, controll panels. Anything associated with heting and plumbing systems. My question is what products are made in the USA, I know many compines are locted in the US but how many of there products are manufactured in the US. I as a contractor spend a lot of money each year on materials. I would like to see that my money is staying in the US. There are many great produts these days and very competive prices. I have the time to see who is located in the US but not enough time to look into were they are manufactured.Steam heating coils

I am sizing up a replacement steam boiler. The system has a steam coil in the duct work. How can I find the EDR rating of the coil? To Learn More About This Professional, Click Here to Visit Their Ad in "Find A Professional"@ September 10, 2007 8:14 PM in Burner won't stay running when real cold
I had the same problem with Weil Mclian Ultra OIL, Direct vent aplication. Beckett NX Burner. Burner running to lean to support fire. Off on Flame failure on cold nights only. Removed air intake, and take combustion air from boiler room, Increase pump pressure and reduce nozzle size. Boiler still running, but it wants to run smokey, have to open air to maintain smoke, but not to far to blow out fire.We can only get 82% EFF. Beckett ruled it cross contamination from direct vent kit.We Have checked direct vent kit with CO detector and there are no sighns of cross contamination. They have called me back and said they would like to look at it again this winter.
