Pet Peeve

@ May 20, 2012 1:27 PM in TROUBLE WITH ALPINE

My Feeling with the issues I encounter with sensors on the alpine and the pure fire , same boiler , can only guess . Better off installing German equipment ... Sorry to say this but true , its all about the buck and the CEO's bonus with American equipment . Since I am the one in the middle of the night fixing these issues of what I call poor designing ... Pure Fire high temp sensors , do I need to say more ..... I may seemed to have a peeve ... The GB's just keep running ,

Furnace sizing

@ May 20, 2012 1:05 PM in furnace sizing

You may need to adjust for AC and duct size ..

Heat Load

@ May 20, 2012 12:55 PM in help with load calculation results

Hot water system boilers are first sized by measuring the envelope of the building ... measuring door walls and windows ... This would give you the BTU needed on the coldest day .

If radiators in home are larger then what is needed then lower water temperatures can be used to heat the home .

Measuring radiators are used for steam systems , to produce enough steam to fill the whole system ..

If boiler also produces the homes domestic hot water .. You may need to adjust size for it ... Depends on your want and needs ...

Hope this helps

Extra Zone

@ May 20, 2012 12:47 PM in adding zone valves to a multi curculator system

You would wire the end switches to the thermostat terminals on the Azel control ... But with out looking at the set up I would have to guess your better off expanding using circulators and joining a second control using the I-Link ... Assuming mixing vales are used and set to set each radiant zones proper floor temperatures .

T451

@ April 15, 2012 7:43 PM in Old thermostat Honeywell T451A1124 in series with circulator

Long Island used line voltage thermostats for hydronic heat from 1960 - the mid 1980s . I assume you have the model with lever on the top since your are satisfied with them ..

The new gas boiler will run on low voltage though . You can use the line voltage thermostats if you want . For efficancy sake you would want to have a demand control on the gas burner ... Either use relays , install an outdoor reset control .or better yet both.. They help out saving on system loss ...

Call Honeywell , most likely they have a multi stage set point thermostat .I am sure they do ..

Flux Wipe

After the job I wipe off the sweats with detergent and water to clean off the flux residue to prevent that future green oxidation ?

You learn something every day , thanks

what ever you want

@ March 21, 2012 10:47 PM in parts type used with CI baseboard

Where you will find expansion problems is the run to the baseboard . The connections do not matter .. Least to most iron ,brass , copper ,pex

Funny

@ March 6, 2012 6:14 AM in Expansion tank issues

The feed valve was connected to the same connection. There was no problems feeding the system ? You should have caught that

Agree

@ March 5, 2012 1:39 PM in Expansion tank issues

Sure we are only guessing from behind a key board . First it's piped wrong from the start ... Seems it always been a problem ... I would also assume the boiler is over sized finding 99% are out there are , that makes sense too .... Most likely a combo of both ...

If it were me I would repipe the boiler to factory spec first ... That is the first obvious problem which should be addressed , Any court of law would agree ... And yes drop down the heat output to its load . That is the beauty of these boilers ... After that blockage should be addressed if problem still exists

Seems all the obvious , Feed valves , heat exchangers , domestic bypass , tank and tank pressure has been addressed ...

Moving the tank from point A to B. ... What changes ? We all know pressures with circulators will change ... But why so dramatic to pop the safety ? The improper piping has to be an issue and that boiler also calls for that 0012 then add a high output boiler .

Being a hands on guy myself. I need to touch and look to find the problem, that and the learning knowlage of how it should work . Then test to cut down the odds :) I am sure we are all doing the same ...

where and how is the sidearm piped into the system in the first diagram ?

Two ?

@ March 4, 2012 4:54 PM in Expansion tank issues

Two you say in six months ? Condemned for a pressure problem ... I guess we can assumed this has been a problem since it has been installed ... Question again ...has the pressure problems started since the start of the heating season ?

Hmmmm

@ March 4, 2012 3:37 PM in Expansion tank issues

Question ? Is this a new instal ? Has the problem always been ?

Just Curious ......

@ March 4, 2012 9:02 AM in Expansion tank issues

Take a look at what was piped and what is recommended . The tees are reversed . What has changed ? Would be the question ...

Hmmm

@ March 4, 2012 8:08 AM in Expansion tank issues

I was thinking the same as I read down this post ... Breaking in to steam ? You would know by the hammering noise …Nothing was mentioned .

I am thinking the change from the recommended piping to what was install which puts the circulators in series which adds up into the boiler . they are all pumping away from the tank . by relocating the tank on the heating return... The boiler circulator is pumping away as the heating circulator is pumping toward the tank... Hmmm.... Which takes them out of series

I see the difference between the two diagrams . The heating zones are injecting in to the primary loop rather then the primary injecting into the secondary ..

Think of.......

Wire the lwco through the line voltage before the 24V transformer , just after the service switch ...

Kicker Heater

@ March 1, 2012 12:06 AM in Peerless PF-110 and Indirect Tank

The kicker heater will not come on in milder weather though the outdoor reset which controls the heating systems water temperature . Modulation depends on the load ..

I also agree with TMorg , I would use a sensor off the boiler control( I did not know they had an extra sensor )... use the brain
