Siemens CO2 VOC

Check

@ February 8, 2012 7:55 AM in Hydronic Coil Air Haindler

the arrow on the volute of your pump, and ensure it's installed in the right direction. Your pump model has a bronze volute which is approved for open loop potable systems, but double check that the balance of your components are approved for potable applications.

Power purging

@ January 29, 2012 8:12 PM in Having trouble balancing WattsRadiant manifolds... showing 0 GPM

the Watts manifold through the supply manifold and draining on the return side can damage the flow gauges. With enough pressure the plastic stem can pierce right through the disc, and result in a false reading of 0 flow, and sometimes even jam the disc and actually prevent flow.

Fixed!

@ January 19, 2012 10:05 PM in Double Dip Tubed!

The client was only getting a few minutes of hot water, then luke warm, then progressively colder. Once we removed the tube on the supply side, the tank performed to spec. The tech thought I had lost my mind to check the supply, but I had exhausted every option.

Shock

@ January 19, 2012 9:51 PM in Double Dip Tubed!

It was a last ditch effort to find the problem, and I nearly feel over when I saw the dip tube.

Helium

@ January 19, 2012 9:43 PM in Radiant slab leak

I pressurize the identified loop with 5psi of helium from a $40.00/Day rented party store helium tank, and then use a rented $90.00/Day helium sniffer, and can usually pinpoint the leak within 2 square feet. I've found leaks in snow melt, in slab, and in-joist, all with various surface coverings. If you exhaust the helium tank very rapidly, it's a very big hole in the pipe!

Double Dip Tubed!

@ January 19, 2012 9:10 PM in Double Dip Tubed!

Yes, I can officially say I got double dip tubed! After 8 hours of trouble shooting a lack of DHW, I threw my arms up in the air, and asked the tech to disconnect the piping at the hot water supply nipple on the indirect, est Voila! Two dip tubes, I'm still in shock.

Same issue

@ January 2, 2012 11:37 AM in wirsbo blisters

with a job I had under 50 psi air for one year, and air pockets were forming under the co-extruded oxygen barrier. I guess the oxygen barriers do work. Also, I've seen pockets on the pipe right out of the box, apparently the co-extruded barrier not adhering properly during mfg., but barrier still in tact.

SBK Actuators

@ November 25, 2011 5:59 PM in SBK Actuators

Does anyone know what a cross reference would be for a SBK actuator, for a SBK manifold.

Honeywell MV 100 Thermal Actuators

@ November 13, 2011 1:39 PM in Honeywell MV 100 Thermal Actuators

I have a case (approx 30) of Honeywell MV 100 Thermal Actuators that I've moved around my shop dozens of times, and I'll accept any reasonable offer. M 30 x 1.5 mm connection thread - 24 VAC - normally closed with end switch.

Problem Solved

@ July 31, 2011 1:40 PM in AERMEC Chiller

I bought the chiller from Mits last fall, and commisioned it this summer. Had to replace the main controller, when the sun was beating down on the unit it would work fine, but when the sun went down the discharge water sensor would read -14 degrees C, and would flicker on the screen. The controller must of had a bad connection on the board, and when the sun heated up the controller the coneection was fine. Glad it happened at my house, and not a clients. The other plus side is that I now know the unit inside out, I guess it does pays to install this stuff at your own house sometimes.

AERMEC Chiller

@ July 22, 2011 11:19 PM in AERMEC Chiller

Does anyone have any insight on a A01 (antifreeze alarm) for an AN417 AERMEC chiller/heat pump? They changed their website yesterday (middle of historic heat wave), and now I can't access the technical manuals without registering. No response to my registration. Or does someone have an electronic version of the installation/service manual.

Blower fault

@ June 8, 2011 10:56 AM in Blower fault rAy boiler

I've seen the same fault before, and resolved it the same way. I've been curious whether the RPMs on the blower are the same as when we first installed the boiler 14 months ago.

high temp heat emitters, so the low temp Jaga rads would need a mixed water temp. I was hoping that the variable speed pumps had an internal end switch, or maybe there was a reliable flow switch I could put in line.

Boiler Signal

@ May 10, 2011 5:50 PM in Boiler Signal

I have a client that wants thermostatic rad valves on all their rads, all the rads connected to a manifold in the mechanical room, and all fed by a single variable speed pump. My question is, how do I get a signal to the boiler when they have a space heating demand. And no they don't want t-stats and actuators.

Multi-Zone SIM Control

@ March 30, 2011 7:41 AM in Multi-Zone SIM Control

I'm looking for a multi-zone SIM control, as I have a project with 17 SIM zones. Maybe a few SIM sensors, and the balance as just slab sensors, or some other strategy without breaking the bank.

@ September 5, 2010 9:20 AM in Geothermal Buffer Tanks

alot of unknowns, maybe the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Perhaps I try something like this on my own house first, before I forfeit all my money on customers lofty ideas. Thanks for the debate.

Geothermal Buffer Tanks

@ August 31, 2010 8:35 AM in Geothermal Buffer Tanks

I have a client who wants to bury 2 geothermal buffer tanks underground (1 hot & 1 chilled), and also wants to optimize the time of use meter by charging the buffer tanks at the lower KW rate between 11pm & 7AM. Does anyone know of a resource to find the calculations for sizing tanks & heat pumps for such an application. Or maybe the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Any thoughts?

CCN

Will Uponor custom write the application, or is this part of the canned offering?

Controls Suggestion

@ March 13, 2010 1:26 PM in Controls Suggestion

I'm trying to figure out my best control strategy for attached drawing, which includes simultaneous geothermal heating and cooling, air handlers, radiant floors, pool, boiler, dhw and de-superheater. Any experience and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any comments or suggestions on the near boiler design would also be welcome.
