@ March 8, 2010 10:58 AM in Do you calculate Heat Loss every job?

I used to have a contractor doing 1200 sq/ft modulars in and he brought me the plans every other week with pretty much the same items. I stopped doing the heat loss after the 1st house. 3-section oil, he said "Rick, what you need to know about me is I don't install 3-sections, make it a 4" That told me everything I needed to know about him. I think my heat loss was 24,000 btuh. Woo Hoo 4-sections for everybody!!!

Do you calculate Heat Loss every job?

@ March 4, 2010 4:16 PM in Do you calculate Heat Loss every job?

New construction and renovation? Just doing research because I see here almost every time someone asks a question the next response is usually "have you, did you, the first thing you need to do is perform a heat loss. Just wondering...
Thanks

@ February 24, 2010 9:18 AM in Cast iron or condensing??

Just checking on the GB142, I have sold over 100 of them and except for a few antifreeze issues and lack of yearly maintenance they are purring like kittens. I guess I never drank the Orange Kool-Aid.

He was growing tired of the call backs for warranty issues

@ February 24, 2010 7:15 AM in Cast iron or condensing??

Was Buderus aware of the ongoing problems they were having with their equipment? They couldn't correct the problem? Just curious, what will the viessmann control do that the GB142 wouldn't? I also believe that the Vitodens had a recall for being a Fire Hazard. That seems pretty serious...

So really the boiler change out was unneccessary

@ February 23, 2010 9:19 AM in Cast iron or condensing??

You utilized controls and a re-engineering to save the 30% correct? Why was the GB142 removed?
"He replaced a Buderus GB mod/con with a Viessmann Vitodens 200. Savings this year over last to this point 33%. Thats changing  from a mod/con to a mod/con."

@ February 23, 2010 7:04 AM in Where the hell is Brad White?

Emailed back and forth with Brad the other day. He and the lovely Susan are doing fine. They are selling their old house and are really busy, he said he lurks once a month or so but hasn't posted.
I speak with Mark Hunt every couple of days and he's the National Technical Trainer for WILO and is on the road non-stop. In fact he's in Pittsburgh this morning. Yes, the Wall has changed and a lot of the "legends" have moved on. It's different, not better, not worse...

How? That's amazing! weren't the both running in the 90%+ range? That's a significant savings, what's their secret? Thanks

@ February 16, 2010 2:46 PM in Condensate Acidic Neutralizing Tubes

Found a Burnham #101867-01 Condensate Neutralizer Kit in the Alpine I&O page 37. Perfect for the application!  A Viessmann installer thought their model was too freaking expensive and that the Burnham model did the exact same thing. Neutralize acid. People are digging the Alpine! I'm happy to be back in wholesale! woohoo
