@ October 24, 2009 2:09 PM in Price EstimateYea the money thing. But, I would really like to hear some real reasons why Amtrol boilermate fails at such a huge rate. I could go on and on and on about failed units and the people I've heard from. I mean suppliers and homeowners.alike. The latest reason I heard was excess heat through the coil.. One thing about the bottom feeders is the tank can drain when the domestic supply is shut off. So if the boilermate calls for heat the plastic liner gets cooked.
Just a thought.
This whole saga has got to be a piece of Amtol's bankruptcy
@ October 22, 2009 5:52 PM in What is it???The Pvt. school I went to No. of Lake Tahoe was originally a resort, on the Feather River, built in 1910.The fire hose connections all had those things. Without that, wouldn't have a clue.
@ October 4, 2009 3:27 PM in expansion tank sizingIs it possible to oversize an expansion tank? I had a brand new #60 tank charged to 12 lbs. and the relief valve leaked on two different boilers. After installing a, " By the book" tank, everything was fine. I'm thinking that diaphragm just did not want to move. Words of wisdom are greatly apprecitated
@ September 30, 2009 10:51 PM in looking for a swivel 90* elbowHose! Maybe some steel braided sfuff with bomb proof fittings.
@ September 28, 2009 11:24 PM in A hotel with real geothermal energy.I remember the Peppermill when it was a glorrified coffe shop. Then it had about 12 table games and about 100 slots. This was in 1975.
That northern Nevada area has plenty of geothermal stuff. The Elec utility there has those big billboard signs telling you to stay out of all the hot pools. One moment the pool was 100 degrees, then it turned to 150.
Also, I got kicked out of the PM back then!
@ July 29, 2009 12:24 PM in El Cheapo, oil/steel/tanklessDHOYes of course, I had a number of long discussions with him. The fact is he whats the nice boiler and tank and controls but he really can't afford anything. He's concidering selling/renting, moving etc. I want to do the right thing for him keeping in mind the right thing for the building. He's on board with mt plan B peace
@ July 29, 2009 8:44 AM in El Cheapo, oil/steel/tanklessDHOI see big changes in the next ten years and I would like to avoid installing a "better" boiler, that will end up being an outdated but newer boiler. I'ld like to see something funtional for the next few years making heat and domestic hot water and and not give the impression of 'new enough" or we/they just put it in ten years ago shouldn't it last 30 years? I realize that the price diff is not really the issue here. But if I'm going to install an outdated boiler with a tankless I don't want it to last 30 years
@ July 24, 2009 10:51 PM in pump sizingGo with a Taco Variable speed. Keep it on this side of the Atlantic. Forget the Danes!
@ July 23, 2009 11:16 PM in convert a steam boiler into a hot water boilerWhy pick on Fairbanks? Here is a state where the majority voted in some hot bimbo to run the state. She started okay but then came fame but no fortune. So she quits her job early to make money on a book deal. This is some gal almost one step away from the presidents office. I think she was actually a gift to the Dems. from God himself. Oh, by the way, The hot water switch, Good luck, your're gonna need it. It's a beautiful summer here on Turnagain arm.
@ July 22, 2009 2:31 PM in pump sizingLearn the universal hydronic formula. It's GPM = BTUH divided by Delta T times 500. Use 20 for the delta if baseboard and 10 if radiant. The 500 is the weight of one pound of water times 60 minutes. If the job is baseboard your answer is 7.
@ July 22, 2009 1:02 PM in El Cheapo, oil/steel/tanklessDHOI have a customer who needs a new oil fired boiler. The old boiler has gone up around the bend. I sent him a quote for the goods after doing a heatloss. Well he can't find two nickles to rub together. The fact remains that his present boiler is NG and I'm in the position of having to find an alternative. My thought is a "10 year" boiler, steel with a tankless coil. What do you think? Peace Matthew P.S. That shouild say tanklessDHW not DHO:-7
@ July 22, 2009 11:58 AM in QuietSide QXM8 Oil IssuesGreg I won't get my hopes up, but that sounds like a bingo to me. Any way to check? I am pretty sure that this thing will fire right up when I get there.
@ July 22, 2009 7:56 AM in QuietSide QXM8 Oil IssuesThanks for the reply Darrell. No big boom yet but this thing does make me nervous. I'm going to recheck all the voltage readings this afternoon and then I don't know I'ld like to at least explain to the HO the issue, but he's ready to consider his options. The thing is only about five years old, that's the rub. Peace
@ July 21, 2009 11:26 AM in QuietSide QXM8 Oil IssuesIt just accured to me to add during the last routine cleaning I found that the refactory blanket that wraps the interion of the combustion chamber had fallen over a bit impinging on the flame. The first trouble call was smoke and I thought AH HA the blanket has fallen again, but no. Any ideas?
@ July 10, 2009 3:42 PM in wilo 230VDon't you need to switch just one wire, Like a water heater?V
@ July 3, 2009 10:56 PM in Mass code questionAbout an hour ago my wife drained boiling potato water down the drain. She remarked again that Martha Stewart said to add cold wter to boiling water to protect plumbing.I was wondering if the pipe makers thought of this! What is the premise of the Reg.?? Enjoy the 4th. Our very own Sarah P. quit today.
@ June 23, 2009 8:57 PM in Expert WitnessesAre you talkig about the Veco thing? If so, incredible
@ June 21, 2009 7:34 PM in recurculating pumpsWhy does a hydronic system have a circulating loop but a domestic loop have a recirculating loop?
@ June 21, 2009 7:15 PM in Expert WitnessesThese guys most of the time support the contractor. In 87 I was the GC on a Montessori School in Santa Monica. I happened to noticed your address, by the way. The building inspectors were all behind me with stuff, Bob Milner and Don Hershberger (I'm sure their gone). Among other projects the school at 6th. and Broadway was my problem. The place is gone.
