Gauge
@ March 9, 2012 2:58 PM in HELP! Old Boiler assist needed!
I would also check the accuracy of the gauge on the boiler. By putting another gauge on a boiler drain somewhere you can verify the actual pressure in the system.Peace

The pump should have the check valve in it right out of the box. You could very well have a small piece of something in the valve preventing it from seating. Not super common but it does happen. It doesn't take a very big item to keep the valve open and allow a convection to accure.Peace

green wire bites
@ April 7, 2011 8:15 AM in wiring of oil furnace on/off switch
Am I seeing that right? It looks like that ground wire in the first two photos is made to the outlet on the service switch?! Can't tell if it's neutral or line. That will bite some poor soul. To me green should always be safe.Oh and that circ in the forth photo should of course be mounted horizontally unless the system pressure is over 20psi.
Just my thoughts.

old style honeywell zone valve
@ February 10, 2011 11:38 AM in Zone valve issue
from the pictures it looks like that is an old style honeywell valve. That means you will have to not only replace the power head but you will also have to replace the valve mechinism which might actually have cause the power head to fail in the first place. So you'll need a power head and a powerhead conversion kit for V4043 or V8043 zone valves. And no, manually opening the valve will not close the end switch.peace

P.S. Isn't it nice to have lots of ball valve in the right places?
I like to say, you can't have too many valves... Well you probably can, but you know what I mean.
After looking at the pictures again I see they are not honeywells.... I take it all back... except the valve statement:-)
Regarding wiring
@ February 2, 2011 7:02 AM in BF3 Post purge
Thanks World for the reply. This is the way the sub base is wired, I double checked to be sure. I'l return this afternoon and triple check and also pull the valve stem. It's weird, this is the first time I've run into the. These things tend to be pretty stout burners.

BF3 Post purge
@ February 1, 2011 7:13 PM in BF3 Post purge
May I ask a question? I've just come across a Riello BF3. The problem, the oil does not shut off during the post purge cycle. At first I thought it was the oil valve stem but no. Then I thought it was the post purge timer but that's not it. I tried a new pump thinking the valve was fouled. (the filtration is poor, FB4 from an old tank single pipe to the burner.) I haven't ruled out the stem even though it's fresh out of the box. The reason I say that is even if I remove the solenoid the oil is still delivered though it seems to have a restricted flow. Am I missing something? Any help would be great, Thanks.Peace

plate heat exchanger?

This boiler has a brazed plate heat exchanger? Could this be the problem?fuel line
@ January 18, 2011 1:05 PM in Beckett burner banging real bad
I might have missed it in all the posts put have you replaced the fuel line, from stem to stern?I find that this is maybe the single biggest cause of ignition and wacky combustion problems.

mounting seal.
@ January 9, 2011 7:56 PM in Replacing combustion chamber question
Charlie and Ice Sailor along these lines do you have a trick for managing the sticky cord that comes with the replacement kit. I find this sometime unmanageable, sticks to my gloves but not to the casting. Any tips?thanks guys

@ January 9, 2011 7:29 PM in Need Help please!!!
You're gettin it. You'll have to get the old spud out as mentioned earlier. That can turn into a job, But it looks like you're handy enough. As long as that radiator tapping is higher than the valve you should be able to avoid hammer as a result of the new rad.Good luck, I think you've got the bull by the horns.

Sorry that should read that off road is cleaner than #2. Sorry about that.#2
@ January 6, 2011 11:43 AM in Burning off road diesel vs. #2
LarryC #2 is cleaner. There are no problems with burning it but storing it in an old tank could be an issue. You might find that it "cleans" the sludge from the inside of the tank, fouling the filters more frequently that you're used to. You'll find that there will be less deposits in the heat exchanging surfaces at cleaning time, assuming the system is set up properly.peace

servicing the circle
@ December 31, 2010 12:16 PM in Circle Combvustion Sysyem/ Calortechnica Boiler
Good boiler. There are removable jacket panels on the front and back of the boiler. The flue pipe most be removed and the burner should also be removed. The bolts holding the clean out covers will be obvious. The front and back both have two covers, top and bottom. The tech should have on hand some water glass and glass rope to replace the gaskets that are likely torn and or missing.Good boiler. Did I mention that?
