pH corrected

@ March 26, 2010 2:30 PM in water pH

The Sentinel X100 did the trick- pH down to 8.3. Great product and easy to add to the system. Full marks!!!

Sentinel 100

The procedure for installing this product is great. Put the tube in a caulking gun, take the pressure off the system, remove a bleed valve on a radiator in the highest part of the house. After screwing on the injector you pump the product into the radiator, open the isolation valve, re-presurise the system, bleed the radiator then start the heater. Never get air into the system this way. Great idea and no draining of the system!

Thanks for all the help

Thanks

pH

@ January 21, 2010 4:36 PM in water pH

I just spoke to the rep. at Rhomar and he suggested the Pro-tek 922. It is safe for aluminum. He also suggested correcting the pH with distilled white vinegar before adding the Pro-tek 922. 1 gal. of the product will treat 50 gal. of water.
I am doing this homework before calling for help- I have a great service tec. but the homework I do always seems to pay off in the long run. Any other thought are always appreciated.

water pH

@ January 21, 2010 2:25 PM in water pH

I have a Weil McLain ultra 115 series 3 and I can not get the pH of the water down. It is 9.25 after flushing it with city water 3 times over the past year- the city water is at pH of 7 to 7.5 I can flush the two loops with out letting in air due to the proper placement of 1/4 turn valves. Will the Rhomar additive for aluminum boilers help adjust the pH???

I have found the pH of my boiler water to be above 8.5 at least that is the highest my water test kit goes. I have read that an aluminum boiler should not have water above 8. I have flushed the system with city water with a pH of 7 and it is back up again. My contractor does not seem to be concerned but never knew the pH could be a problem with aluminum boilers. Any thoughts?

outdoor temp. sensor

@ January 15, 2009 8:30 AM in Weil Mclain Ultra 3 Lockouts

Has been working great since install. Saving lots of gas while it changes water temperature with the outdoor temp. Will the heater also change water temperature when return water gets close to supply temp.- in other words the house is not pulling off much heat from the radiators. Is this what modulation refers to. Thanks for putting up with these basic questions- I had a professional do the install I just like knowing how it works and appreciating the complexities. Hydronic engineering is fascinating - you guys are brilliant!

Proper setting for pressure controls

@ December 4, 2008 9:18 AM in Proper setting for pressure controls

I currently have a 245,000 BTU Burnham gas steam boiler. I have 2 pressure controllers. One is L404F1367. The other is L4079B1033(high limit). I would like to find out the correct psi settings on each of these controllers so the boiler runs properly. Currently the settings are as follows: L404F1367- main 3.5 psi, diff 1.5 psi L4079B1033- main 9 psi Thanks.

2 pressure controls required?

@ December 3, 2008 11:04 AM in 2 pressure controls required?

Hi, I just recently converted to gas from oil. The new boiler is a Burnham IN8 gas fired steam boiler. It comes already with an operating pressure control. I was told that another high limit pressure control needs to be installed. Is that necessary and what are the difference between them? Thanks.

outdoor temp. sensor

@ December 2, 2008 11:06 AM in Weil Mclain Ultra 3 Lockouts

When I attach the outdoor temp. sensor to my WM. Ultra 105- will it recognize it and will I need to adjust any of the settings? It currently is all factory default for cast iron radiators. This site is great.

running boiler all the time

@ December 2, 2008 10:57 AM in Weil Mclain Ultra 3 Lockouts

The idea sounds logical but how does it know the temperature inside and what if you want to change the inside temp. Also, what are the costs of running the pumps 24/7 compared to having the thermostat working with the outdoor sensor? In other words the heater output temp. fits the requirements of the day but when the house temp. is satisfied the unit shuts off.
