Sorry that I will have to miss the Jerry Bash this year. I am down at BEAUTIFUL Ft Leonard Wood, MO until Mid-September learning about CBRN - Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Warfare!! Just how I envision a great summer! Had a good time last year. Anthony said to say hello to your grandson. Raise a glass of fine spirits for me and all of our servicemen! Take Care - Darin

@ June 4, 2009 7:19 AM in Buderus won't run on generator

Buderus has different versions of the UBA control out there. Your customer obviously has the version that will not recognize the "dirty" voltage. If you replace the UBA with the correct version, the boiler will run with no issues on generator power. I had the same issue with one boiler in an area that got pounded by our bad ice storm in upstate NY. Contact your local Buderus product rep and tell him that you need to upgrade your UBA control. Oh yeah - it was free to boot! Problem solved!!! Darin

Tony is right on the money. Your operating costs will be VERY low, which is where the real savings are in a system. Darin

Tax Credits

@ May 12, 2009 6:05 PM in $1500.00 rebate/tax credit

I would agree wholeheartedly with you guys. Never, Ever - Promise anything that you have no control over. You could find yourself in a awkward legal position!! Darin

Tax Credits

@ May 12, 2009 3:15 PM in $1500.00 rebate/tax credit

The credits are calculated against the "total" installation including labor. Feel free to check it out on www.energystar.gov Darin

Tax Credit

@ May 12, 2009 2:02 PM in $1500.00 rebate/tax credit

For qualifying heating and water heating equipment it is 30% of the installation cost up to $1500.00. It is a tax credit which means for every dollar of tax burden you have, one dollar comes off of that total. So if you can take a Federal tax credit in conjunction with a Utility Rebate you could be saving thousands of dollars off the cost of an install. Translated - there is no better time than now to go with a high efficiency installation. Darin

Rebates

@ May 12, 2009 8:08 AM in Upstate NY - National Grid Natural Gas Rebate Program Extended!!

Dave, The Upstate NY rebate is for retrofits, conversions, and new gas services. The NGrid gas customer must install qualifying equipment as per the rebate form requirements. So if you have folks out there who thought they could not get the rebate because they had a new gas service brought into a former oil home - they can! Please feel free to email me directly if you have any other questions. Darin

Program Updates

@ May 11, 2009 9:48 AM in Upstate NY - National Grid Natural Gas Rebate Program Extended!!

Just a friendly announcement that the Upstate NY - National Grid, Natural Gas Rebate Program has been extended through the upcoming heating season. Program end date has yet to be announced. There are some changes in dollar amounts and some equipment has been added. I have included an attachment that show the applicable equipment and dollar amounts. The current rebate program has been extended until June 30, 2009. The new changes and dollar amounts will start on 1 July 2009. ** An important change is that the Tankless Water Heater $500.00 rebate will end on 30 June 2009. The Commercial Rebate Program is still getting changes and approvals made. More information to come on that. The revised Electric Efficiency Rebate Program Forms will be released very soon. All A/C, Heat Pump, and duct-less split units will have to be certified by AHRI in order to qualify for the rebate. An ACCA Manual J will have to be performed as well. Any questions please feel free to contact me, Darin Cook

What is a company's largest concern when making biz decisions?

@ May 5, 2009 2:53 PM in American made products

It is the tax burden! If you fix the broken and out of control tax system in the US you will have businesses flocking back to the US in droves. Can you imagine if they instituted a flat tax of 23% upon all new goods and services? No more withholding on you paycheck! No more guessing if the IRS is going to find something wrong on your return! Everyone now pays the fair share even criminals! I know - What a dream!! Darin

Funny Isn't It?

@ May 5, 2009 2:43 PM in Actual savings from Geo

The one true building science test offered to the customer and he refuses. The blower door test alone would quantify the ACH and come up with a much more accurate heat loss. You know - so you could figure out what you really need for equipment. Let's see how green he wants to be when it is time to take the green out of the wallet. Darin

An old rule of thumb is to have as much HW in storage as the tubs would hold. That being said, How often in reality would both tubs be filled at the same time? A real good "trick" and good plumbing practice is to install a thermostatic mixing valve (I like the Taco #5000) with an inline thermometer (Pasco #1450). You can run the tank at 140' to kill any possible Legionalla bacteria but only let say 115' or 120' out of the tank to your plb fixtures. This gives you alot longer on the draw time and way before your indirect heater gets to that 120' mark your boiler is up and running dumping btu's into the tank. The Buderus G124/32 has an output of about 110,000 btu's not a bad domestic hot water generator. I would couple that to a Buderus ST-200 indirect tank. I would highly recommend using the Buderus Logamatic control with your system as well for maximum control and energy savings. Darin

Adjust Circ

@ April 27, 2009 7:15 AM in Buderus GB 142 fault-2F

Have you made an attempt to switch speeds on the Grundfos 15-58FC that comes on the Pri-Sec manifold? This may help you in getting the desired Delta T across the heat exchanger. Darin

A safe way to clean your coil

@ April 23, 2009 6:33 AM in clogged DHW coil

I have used a product called Rydlyme to clean heat exchangers on indirects. It will will make the inside of the coil look like brand new. It is non-toxic. You can even dump it down the drain - legally - it is that safe to use. It is about $100.00 for a five gallon container. Darin

@ April 16, 2009 8:37 PM in Are Buderus Logamtic controls worth the money?

Yes, I know exactly where you are and what type of building you are speaking of. I grew up in Coxsackie. I would recommend that you get a quote from Bill Smith, owner of Bill's Plumbing 518-821-0273. N&S Supply in Catskill is a Buderus dealer, Call and ask for Rob Nussbickel (Manager) for a referral and/or information at 518-943-2150. Good Luck, Darin
