Na, always seems to low for our proposal bidding. I think it sould be used only as a low "ball park " starting point for jobs. JMHO. Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ December 10, 2006 7:16 AM in American Radiator Co #1 Ideal boiler how old is it??
I have changed many of those 3 door boilers. You should really consider a change out when possible. The standing loss is huge as are the flue ways. JMHO. Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech CorpAM-10

The design temp should match the heat loss that the panel rads can handle. The other setting is the min temp that the the system can run at. RE: 14F odt 150F for system min temp 115F. The idhwh is not influenced by the AM-10 it is over ridden. Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ December 2, 2006 4:56 PM in On The Lighter Side<
The car was a SUNBEAM TIGER@ November 27, 2006 8:25 PM in How much heat do i need ?
After designing a few jobs in my 27 years in the HVAC field, it has occured to me that manual "J" is over sized by a factor of 40% on FHA jobs and up to 70% on RFH jobs. I know that it is a educated guess BUT IT IS STILL OVER SIZED. The internal gains on new construction is overwelming Re: 12 hi hats in the kitched,20 in the family room and so on. On the other hand the glazing sizes are much larger(egress windows) and more eye pleasing than than usefull. If you drive through a high end part of town at night i bet the larger homes will have every light on in the house. I looked at a 8ksf home today that is 2 years old. The owner purchased it from one the premier builders in westchester county N.Y. There was air in one of the hydro-air coils. I didnt have my camera with me so no pictures. The boiler is rated at 275k input oil fired. The indirect is a 8o gallon with no tempering valve. All the pumps are on the return an a half dozen air vents on heal tees above the pumps, NICE JOB. I asked the owner how the fuel useage is he replied"i get the bill,i pay it" nice. So "how much heat do you need?" i guess it depends who paying. Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 27, 2006 7:55 PM in Clammy munchkin install
Clammy nice job. I love my Gb-142. It is not the product as much as taking pride in the installation. You take a lot of PRIDE in your work. Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 25, 2006 2:26 PM in control of modulation
Outdoor temp sets the target temp for the supply based on the ratio you set. Indoor feeback over rides the target temp. Modulation is controled PID Delta "T". Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 25, 2006 8:20 AM in Things I learned this year (SE)
Arent you a bank? Most of my customers think that i am. He has to be confronted by you and the law laid down. I will finish when you get some money. Set a date and stick to it. If you dont get a fair amout of money by the date agreed upon GET A LAWYER. Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 25, 2006 8:05 AM in Things I learned this year (SE)
I feel your pain. Most customers are dont understand why we walk off jobs because we do not get a check. I have got burned many times. Having a so called friend do this is the worst. I wonder some times if i should work for some one and let them worry about this CRAP. Too many restless nights thing about money, bills, feeding my family AND THE WIFE B%$#@ING AT ME. Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 25, 2006 7:44 AM in Will 160 DEG F input be ok for this hydronic coil?
You should have NO problems. The 30k coil would heat 3 times the space. Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 23, 2006 8:54 AM in Getting tired of the quoting game?
This makes it atractive to customer. You are not wasting your time and the small fee can can be easily be worth the "Rebate" for the work. Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 23, 2006 8:35 AM in My Steam Boiler is Short Cycling -- Driving Us Crazy -- Help!
Do you have a presutrol or vapor-stat? Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 23, 2006 7:46 AM in Ideal piping for mod/cons
The root of the problem is the initial design for the mod-con. I have a Buderus GB 142 with panel rads with trv's on all but 2 towel warmers, constant cirulation with a outdoor starter (my wife hates it no t-stat just a dummy stat showing room temp}. I did a study and figured out the balance point for the house and the starter is set at 44 OAT. The design temp is 140@14 OAT so condensing is constant except for DHW production. The manufactures piping diagrams should be followed to a "T" unless you know more than them. I have mod- cons in the field connected to fin tube on reset that performs great. Is it the best application for the boiler? Good question. My answer is the savings during 80% of the season off sets the design days of hi-temp demand. So why get all balled up in your shorts on piping the boiler, system design is more important to me.jmho Thanks Ray M Comfort Tech Corp@ November 23, 2006 7:22 AM in Getting tired of the quoting game?
Agreed. I tell the customer up front that a heat loss with supporting paper work is thiers. A fee is charged for this. If i do the job it is deducted. You have to empasise that THIS IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. You cant size a system any other way period. I to have install 6-8 of the tabagos, like ken said a little noisey. The Freeport CT line is my choice. Thanks Ray M@ November 18, 2006 7:27 AM in Buderus GB 142/60 times three (Ray L)

Ray, Nice use of the pumping stations, they happen to be one of my favorites. Very nice install. Thanks Ray M@ November 15, 2006 6:36 PM in Painting cast iron radiators?

It is a shame that the public is so misinformed about heating systems. I have 3 sets of plans from 3 different ark-a-teks [thanks ME] with spec's to remove all the radiators and install "forced air heating". After talking to the owner's the common response is "IT works good but it"s ugly". I try to explain to the customers that if you remove the radiator cover's and paint the rad's that they will work better, look better and will give you year's of economical COMFORT. Mind you 2 of the systems are converted gravity system's and one is one pipe steam that is piped wrong. Ok we will think about it. I get a call form ark-a tek #1 "why are you trying to change the spec" and i reply that in my 27 year's in the heating and cooling bussiness i have NOT seen a "forced air system "out perform a forced hot water emitter system in comfort and economy. [We install both furnaces and hydro-air.] I know that i will open a can of worms with the last statement but variable speed air handler and larger hot water coil's still does'nt cut it. There are no "hydro air " air handlers that can give you 15 seer without a third party coil installed. The package units that are made are just comming up to 13 seer. The manufactures are behind with the changing times. Thanks Ray M@ November 10, 2006 6:39 PM in Job Photos ( S Milne )
