Order of Catagories on the Wall

@ May 19, 2013 9:19 AM in Order of Catagories on the Wall

I reordered the Categories on the Wall again. I thought alphabetical made sense but some folks wrote to disagree, so I thought we'd base the order on the number of posts for each category. The more posts each category has, the higher it will move up the Wall.

I hope that makes you all smile. Well, at least some of you.

Fond memory

@ May 18, 2013 7:00 AM in John Reed of Mestek passes

Some years ago, I called and asked if I could visit with him. I just wanted to meet him and ask questions about his past. He invited me for a sandwich in his office. It remains one of the most memorable days of my career. He was quite a guy. Rest peacefully, Mr. Reed.

The show

I can think of a lot of jobs I'd love to see on this show, and many of them wouldn't be do-overs. Think about how much we can do with relatively minor changes. That's a message that rarely makes it to TV.

If it wasn't for bad luck.

I put things in alphabetical order.

@ May 15, 2013 1:23 PM in Plumbing Forum?

Lots of people were writing to complain that their section wasn't up top like Strictly Steam. They said I was playing favorites. This seems like the fairest way to go.

I'll move this thread to the Plumbing section. Thanks.

Okay, I'm game.

@ May 15, 2013 10:25 AM in Plumbing Forum?

Just set up the Plumbing section. Have fun!

By special request.

@ May 15, 2013 10:24 AM in By special request.

About those things a plumber must know? Let's see:

1. Water flows downhill

2. Cold's on the right; hot's on the left

3. Don't bite your fingernails.

I forget the rest. Feel free to jump in.

No.

@ May 14, 2013 2:29 PM in Eco Property

That's his pilot. He now has to pitch it, which is why I'm showing it here. Hope it gets him some attention.

I couldn't pass that test.

@ May 14, 2013 1:48 PM in Plumbing Forum?

So I'd have to include myself out of that exclusive (and very expensive to develop) section, which is what I'm doing. ;-)

Would you like a section of Plumbing Questions?

Considering that it's just me here.

@ May 14, 2013 12:27 PM in Plumbing Forum?

Who does all this checking and vetting? And how does it make the others feel when they're left out of this members-only part of the site. Should we also have a non-pro section, where pros are not allowed. Those folks could also talk about pricing, and which pros they don't like.

I don't want to go there.

I've been at this since '96 and you've been with us since then and you probably remember that we've talked about this a bunch of times in the past. I want the site to be inclusive. We get the most done that way. If people want to talk price they can do so by email. I've seen other sites fall apart when they try to create tribes within tribes.

What defines a pro?

How would I check?

Ryan Rex wrote to me last year about an idea and I encouraged him to go for it. Here's the result. I hope he makes it to the big time on TV.

Would you folks like to add a Plumbing Questions section?

@ May 14, 2013 8:57 AM in Plumbing Forum?

I can do that if you want it.

They love visitors.

Send Johnny a note. I'm sure he'd love to see you.

That's pretty standard these days.

Thing is, there are 500 people working in a small American town, and they hug the owner of the company. It's really something to see. Visit if you get a chance.

"The one thing I've got in this company that will never be obsolete is the people."

Love it.

As do I.

Thanks, pal.

I just did.

@ May 4, 2013 9:04 AM in Mark Eatherton to lead RPA

Thanks, Mark.

In very good hands.

@ May 3, 2013 9:37 AM in Mark Eatherton to lead RPA

Good stuff ahead. Thanks, Mark.

You would, Danny.

But I don't know our guest's abilities when it comes to probing into walls. A lot went into the design of those things.
