It was very informative.Thermostat set at one cycle per hour

When the thermostat calls for heat after making the one cycle setting, does this mean that the boiler will run until the thermostat setting is reached and then the thermostat will not call for heat again until one hour from the time the boiler initially turned on?@ December 20, 2007 8:48 AM in used 56 MCF in 28 days

What pressure settings are being used to control the operation of the boiler? Your system should be operating using ounces of pressure.@ December 9, 2007 1:53 PM in Big fire theory
You should read Hot Tech Topic-The Speed of Steam;based upon this information,it would seem that boiler pressure should be controlled as low as possible and still provide heat to all radiators. I have found that our two pipe vapor steam system only requires several ounces(using vaporstat) of pressure to provide comfortable, uniform heat throughout our home. When we moved here about 15 years ago, the pressure setting was 3plus pounds. A lot of fuel was wasted over the years.using a manometer

attached to the boiler drain in accordance with Noel's instructions, I found that in order to have the vaporstat cut out at 8 ounces of pressure, the dial setting had to be lowered to about 5.5 ounces of pressure. There is no doubt that lower is better. Cut in dial seems to be okay.as an addition to my last post, there is air being released

boiler run time is 4 1/2 minutes, with steam reaching the end of each main(there are 3) in 1 1/2 minutes. The boiler is rated 815 sq. ft. steam and the home is 3600 sq. ft. brick built in 1940.boiler cycle time

set at 1.2 was approximately 1 hour, but there was short cycling at this setting. I moved the anticipator arrow back to 1 and I can't believe the difference. Boiler cycle time is every half hour and it runs approximately 10 minutes. Gas usage is down noticeably and there is no temperature overshoot or short cycling. The Webster two pipe vapor system is heating fine after this change; vaporstat is set at 12 ounces cutout and main vent on dry return in boiler room has Gorton 2's. Thank you all for your input to my many questions in the past. I have been unable to find a professional in our area that 1. has the interest in steam heating that you all have and 2. is determined to see that the system is operating as intended.thermostat anticipator

The Honeywell T87 anticipator is set at 1.2 for our steam system. With the thermostat set at 66, the room temperature is raised to 68/69 before the thermostat shuts the boiler down. Is it normal for temperature overshoot at this 1.2 setting?steam system

our Warren Webster two pipe steam system radiation units(which are recessed in the wall) have a small disc with holes all around on each inlet valve stem. This disc has a small stub which stops the opening of the valve by meeting a post on the valve housing. This disc can be rotated and I just wondered if the purpose was to allow more or less steam into the radiant finned panel?steam heat thermostat

@ February 26, 2003 11:07 AM in steam boiler replacement?
we have a two pipe steam system with a boiler that is probably the original and would be about 50 years old. everything is operating fine, but I was wondering whether the boiler should be replaced because the new boiler would be a lot more efficient; or do I keep this one until the day it starts leaking?
