Snow melt on above grade IPE deck
@ January 6, 2010 2:50 PM in Snow melt on above grade IPE deck
Have a job where we are joining a hot tub to the home via above grade wood deck covered in 1x4 IPE decking, The owner inquired about snow melt for a path from the house to hot tub appox 12'x3'. I was thinking aluminum plate with ridgid insulation pitched for runoff, But I'm wondering about any stress cracking that may take place in the decking from the system. Anyone done anything similar?PV solar web link
@ December 2, 2009 7:19 PM in PV solar web link
Last year someone had posted a web link for solar pv that take an property address(IE- Google earth) & give you the stats for the solar output on that location. Long story short, I now have a customer that wants PV solar & I've lost the link & hoping someone might still have it.
Thanks!

We have used those in the past, for added floor warming, nice products.Unfortunately here in LI NY we have the pleasure of paying some of the highest electric rates in the country, so most customer get chills when you suggest electric heating.Roth Mini Shunt

Thats the one I've read about. Have a few questions. The bath is only 60 +/- sq' with a heat loss of 1835 BTU. Would this be an appropriate system for this, or should I be looking into something else. Anyone have any feed back on this product, seems like a great idea for small remodelsSmall Radiant loop from existing baseboard zone

Have a customer that would like a Radiant bath floor appox 65 Sq' But to get new loops to the location would require opening many walls or running thru attic. There is existing baseboard in the room. I seem to remember reading about a system that would allow the radiant to be feed from a existing hot water zone. Have asked my plumber about it & got the blank stare. So any info & reviews about this product would be appreciatedFresh air make up requirements

We are finishing off a basement, Customer wants to seal off the boiler room from interior & use exterior fresh air make up venting. What is the rule of thumb? existing a oil fired 155K boiler. Thanks@ December 11, 2005 8:51 PM in Condensing boiler for multi temp. heating
Thanks for all the advice!condensing boiler for multi temperature heating output.

we are in the process of renovating a 3000 sq' home, appox 1800 sq' will have radiant installed the remaining will be heated w/ hydronic coiler in the air handlers. We had planned on using a condensing boiler for the heating & hot water. I get conflicting opinions from different contractors on condensing boilers. I've been told that due to the higher water temps necessary for the hydronic coils, we won't get the full benefit of a condensing boiler. I thought that as long as the boiler was properly sized or even slightly undersized you could expect to see a jump in effiency. Would we be better just using a modulating boiler instead? Any input would help. Thanks@ November 12, 2005 7:49 AM in Beudarus- Cast Iron VS. Condensing
Thanks for the input, the secondary heating output would be domestic hot water 2 1/2 baths 6 people in the home,I planned on using a storage tank would this set up still be efficient for the condensing setup? Called two heating companies in the area, both were'nt intrested unless the were installing the complete system. Sent plans to Roth to have the system layed out,& I would imagine the load calcs. Could you recommend anyone in the LI. NY area ThanksBedarus- cast iron vs. Condensing

Renovating a 3000 sq' home appox 1700 sq' radiant, remaining area hot water coil w/ forced air.Is the additional cost for the condensing unit really worth the cost, how about life span? Any pro/cons on the install? Thanksboiler for radiant & baseboard system
@ October 23, 2005 10:38 PM in Which boiler for Radiant & Base board system
Renovating a 3000 sq' home on Long Island NY. need a Gas fired direct vent boiler. Radiant heat 1 st. floor & baseboard heat 2 nd floor & hot water coils installed on a/c unit in attic for back up on radiant. would also like w/ a hot water storage tank. was recomended the Dunkirk Quantum 90 for a boiler,& Burnhum. anyone w/ experience w/ these units. I was suprised by the aluminum heat transfer plates on Dunkirk, are these long term, would antifreeze in system cause problems. Should I also be looking for a modulating system ? Can I expect reliable service if there are problems? Any in put would be appreciated.
