Thank You

@ August 15, 2010 9:52 PM in Buderus Heat Exchanger

Many thanks for the informative answer.  I should have limited my German equipment to our fierce little Krups coffee grinder; a computer controlled German boiler was a bridge too far.

Buderus Heat Exchanger

@ August 11, 2010 11:18 PM in Buderus Heat Exchanger

I've been told to use mineral oil to clean the deposits that collect between the fins on the heat exchanger tubes.  What's the best way to apply the oil, how long should it be left to soak, and what's the suggested way to remove it?  Thanks, Fred in Colorado

Cleaning GB142 Fins

@ June 20, 2010 5:58 PM in Cleaning GB142 Fins

There are thick white deposits building up between the fins on the bottoms of the heat exchanger tubes of our GB142 boiler.  Is there a cleaning solution that will loosen the deposits without damaging the aluminum of the heat exchanger?  Any suggestions about cleaning are appreciated.  Fred in Lakewood, CO

GB142

We're in our third year of GB142 ownership.  Although their aluminum heat exchangers have been the subject of much fear and loathing, I clean ours by-the-book every year and have seen no sign of disabling corrosion.  A hot surface ignitor has been the only component replaced so far.  As a Ford/Chevy guy, it hurts to pay Mercedes prices for replacement parts; do the domestic mod-con boilers use less costly components?

Buderus Igniter

@ October 21, 2009 7:13 PM in Buderus Igniter

The attached picture is of an Ignitor from a Buderus GB142-24 boiler.  The Buderus part number is 7099006.  The label on the wires is Norton Model 601 and was replaced by Buderus with a Norton 601SS.  It operates at 120 volts, has a removable perforated heat shield that terminates as a male grounding terminal.  With the heat shield removed, overall length is about 2 15/32 inches, diameter of the round ceramic base is about 7/8 of an inch.  We'd like to have a spare, but hate to order another from Germany for $125.00 as they are made by Norton in the USA!  Any suggestions where to source one?  Fred Clarke, Lakewood, Colorado.
