Viessmann Coaxial Venting.

@ January 28, 2012 12:40 AM in Viessmann Coaxial Venting.

Howdy everybody! Hey I had a WB2B installed 2 winters ago and it's been running like a champ. The only thing I don't like is the frost it's leaving on my house. It direct vents straight out the back wall it's mounted on. The vapor rises up and runs under the eve and turns to frost. With some moisture getting into the attic and I don't want that. I would like to run the coaxial vent above the eve but it has to be run on the outside. Do they make an insulated coaxial vent pipe? I'm up north and it's dam cold at times, -20 is usually as cold as it get. Later on this summer I'll have the company that installed the unit come and do the work. Thanks Viess.

Viessmann WB2B Heat Exchanger Cleaning.

@ November 24, 2011 2:39 AM in Viessmann WB2B Heat Exchanger Cleaning.

So has anyone cleaned a WB2B Viessmann heat exchanger lately and what did it look like? That leads me to ask how often should one be cleaned? Viessmann claim they are a self cleaning unit. Thanks Viess.

Comfort.

@ February 8, 2011 12:59 PM in new vito200 wb2b coding question

One other initial assumption/mistake my installer made was he tried to set the system up just like the old one. On or off zone heat with zone valves. These boiler are meant for continuous circulation. Only when the outside temp is within 2 degrees of the indoor temp will the circulating pumps and boiler shut completely off. Nice even heat with no over cycling. The nice thing about these boilers if your wondering about weather or not your boiler is condensing and at what temp is ideal. All you have to do is place the condensate tube into a 5 gallon bucket and watch it. It won't take long and you'll get a good feel for what's ideal.

Condensing.

@ February 7, 2011 11:54 PM in new vito200 wb2b coding question

I think most of us get the condensing part but the further north you go at times depending on your setup the boiler may have to operate at a little higher supply temp than what's ideal for condensing. That's why I asked if adding additional registers or maybe  some radiant floor heating would allow more heat into the room there by reducing the return water temps. Voilà back in condensing mode. My setup has the low loss header with sensor, outdoor temperature sensor, all baseboard finn tube heat. The system is around 25 gallons and the boiler holds less than one gallon. Small tube high resistance that requires one pump strictly for overcoming the header loss and one pump for constant circulation of the system. When it gets really cold say 20 below the  boiler runs a little out of the condensing mode range. If I had radiant in floor heat it would probably run in fully condensing mode all the time.  Still getting 50+ percent savings over the old boiler.

Sizing?

@ February 6, 2011 11:11 PM in new vito200 wb2b coding question

So the heat loss of the house is greater than the output of the boiler? Or you just don't have enough baseboard finn tubes to extract all the heat the boiler is putting out?

Coding.

@ February 1, 2011 3:38 PM in new vito200 wb2b coding question

Sounds like we have pretty much the same setup. I have a WB-2B with finn heat.
The High Temp setting is to protect the boiler. Set it and forget it.
You need to go to Coding Level 1 d3:14 and change the slope. The factory setting is Slope 1.4 Shift 0 You only need to change the slope according to what your average lowest temp is for the winter or what works to keep the place warm. A higher slope value will allow the burner to raise the boiler operation temp. In the summer you may need to turn it back down if you can't control the room temp by just turning the temp dial down on the boiler.
PS the slope is adjustable from .2 to 3.5 or as it is seen on the screen 2 to 35. So if the boiler is factory set the slope will read Slope 14 and Shift 0

@ January 14, 2011 3:35 PM in Interesting take on the condensing boiler issue....

You can make a very cheap and effective neutralizer all by yourself using PVC and oyster shell. Even safe for septic systems.

Waste of money?

@ December 22, 2010 7:14 PM in expansion tanks

Not a pro but I would only be concerned if it were to small. To small and you will cause the system to over pressurize and possible wear out the diaphragm sooner thereby causing the boiler safety value to open. Size the tank according to the system volume and the systems max boiler water temperature. Don't see a real problem with an over sized tank other than initial cost. Viess.

Old design new Spin?

@ November 15, 2010 2:33 PM in New Knight design

The problem with any boiler manufacture that's beholding to share holders will always be profits over quality. Out sourcing parts and labor. Inadequate R&D. Following not leading. Viessmann has the best HX on the market bar non.

Top Choice.

@ November 15, 2010 2:59 AM in mod/con boiler choices (the intangibles)

Last fall I had the WB2B-35 installed. It doesn't have the Vitotronic control but the boiler is in the garage so it ain't no big deal when I need to adjust it. It has saved me on average 65% per month on me gas bill. I guess because they are a high end boiler not to many installers are pushing them? Easier to sell a cheaper boiler and the keep profit margins up, IMHO. I bought this boiler online thereby saving right off the top 1400 dollars and had it installed by a licensed professional. I know that's gonna chap some of you guys butts but in this economy it's every man for himself. If I have any questions I just call or email the guys back on the east coast and get answers right away. Even though I'm not a dealer/installer. It's a GREAT product and the Viessmann folks are very accessible. Bottom line you can't go wrong buying a Viessmann!
PS: Since initial install boiler is purring right along!

PSI?

@ February 13, 2010 3:10 PM in on going argument

So what would be a safe low PSI cut off setting? Viess.

Maybe.

@ February 3, 2010 2:42 PM in can i run 2 heating thermostat off 1 boiler in a series like a chain

Depends, if its a mono flow setup, yes.

Yep.

@ February 1, 2010 2:27 PM in Why so much steam from my modcon?

That's normal. The lower the return water temp the more condensate you should get. The manual should give a rough estimate of about how much condensates is normal within a given temp and time frame. Viess.

We're Not Running out? Say what?

@ January 11, 2010 2:02 PM in China winning the energy race?

If you believe that, well I have an iceberg in Arizona I'd like to sell ya, lol. You don't have to believe in global warming to want clean renewable energy. Like I said before, in big cities like LA, Mexico City, Salt Lake City and Beijing breathing the air is a health hazard. If it wasn't for the EPA and certain environmental groups. We would be a real hot mess. Clean coal technology is a hoax, doesn't exist, period. There is a track record that shows what Brian's total capitalistic vision looks like. They're called SUPER FUND CLEAN UP SITES! Large corporations take their manufacturing business to China because of the lack of environmental cares or concern. China devalues the yen and the Chinese work for pennies on the dollar. I'm for free trade as long as it's fair trade. It ain't! Yes we are raising the standard of living for the Chinese but the flip side of that coin is a lowering of our standard of living. The trend now is to hire only part time workers, that keeps the company from paying overtime and doesn't require them to provide any health care. Middle class America has taken a beating for better than a decade now. If ya think unfettered capitalism is so great you have got another thing coming. Greed needs to be regulated period. We can grow and prosper but it needs to be done responsibly. IMHO, Viess.

China's Government

@ January 10, 2010 10:19 PM in China winning the energy race?

Sees the necessity in clean renewable energy. That's why the government is putting up billions of dollars into solving the problem. Not only is it in their national security interest its in their economic interest. As long as large corporations like Exxon Mobile and Coal producing entity's are running Washington we will follow China's lead. Nothing gets done in the Senate either because someone has been bought off or they don't believe there is a or is going to be an oil and gas shortage. Neither do they think global warming is real. While we bicker and diddle, China acts. IMHO

IBC vs Viessmann.

@ December 29, 2009 2:12 AM in Viessmann Boiler

Viessmann Incorporated in 1917
Viessmann  holds over 150 patients in several countries around the world.
Viessmann first to use stainless steel in their heaters.
Viessmann has been a driving force and innovator in the Heating Industry for a very long time. With far to many first to mention here.
Viessmann is a private company that does not have to pay dividends to share holders.
Viessmann is then able to put allot of money back into R and D.
What I see happening in todays world and it's not just this industry, is reverse engineering. Someone comes up with an innovative product. Then the competitor takes it apart reassembles it slightly different and Voila! A new product is born. Unless it has a DNA, nothing is safe.
IBC, founded in 1994
PS: I'd get over the whole they won't email me thing. Your customers should be given a choice based on the facts not feelings. IMHO Viess.

Vitotrol 300 remote control?

@ December 27, 2009 11:32 PM in Viessmann Boiler

Chris, by having the Vitotrol 300 remote control does that make the unit run more efficiently? How does the indoor temp taken by the remote influence the operation of the boiler? Or is the remote just for turning the temp up or down without having to going to the boiler room? My WB2B is in the garage where I  keep the temp at 50. I have 3 zones and the garage is a demand zone valve setup. The other two zones are continuous flow. The boiler uses the outdoor reset and I set the appropriate slope and shift curve to regulate the house temperature I want. I don't mind going to the garage  once and awhile to adjust it but if by having the remote makes the boiler run more efficient, them I'm all for it. Thoughts? Viess.

Viessmann Vitodens WB2B

@ December 24, 2009 1:11 PM in Viessmann Boiler

I had the above boiler installed about one and a half months ago. What I like about the system besides the overall quality of the materials used to make it. Is the even heating because it's a constant flow setup. Only when the outdoor temp sensor and boiler control determine that the temp differential is about 2 degrees apart does it shut down the primary and secondary circulating pumps. Except of course when the DHW is set as priority. I used roughly one third less fuel last month. If you the home owner have any questions the Viessmann reps back east are more than willing to help out. If you pick an installer that's never installed a Viessmann Vitodens make sure they call the east coast rep and talk to an engineer before they bid it. Most all installers will rig it for demand heat. That's not how to do it. Happy Holidays!
