Going to an old style trans will fix it

@ December 7, 2009 3:53 PM in Beckett burner eating up Ignitors

I've done the same thing a few times and its worked well

The 51771U igniters seem to fail prematurely in hot locations.
Is the furnace closet hot? is the sight door tightly closed?

feel for a hot spot on the side of the bulge on the igniter.

an rf-1 and a garber?

@ December 7, 2009 3:38 PM in Recent Install

is the rf-1 a sludge pot?

 its looks nice,
 no Logomatic?

can't really see if you used flex line to ease future cleanings.

no oil in the top?one third full is the norm.

@ December 7, 2009 3:30 PM in Have you ever seen a check out procedure for a tiger loop?

I have read the rather brief and vague pamphlet that comes with them.

What I have been looking for for some time is a 5-step check out procedure.

I hate to guess and be wrong with any expensive part.

Rain down the chimney over the summer?

@ December 6, 2009 7:26 PM in Rust stain below burner

is the smoke pipe a short run?
does the chimney have a cap?

any evidence of rain(yellow stuff) in the flue pipe  you cleaned?

EZ air?

@ December 6, 2009 7:20 PM in air makeup for radiant heat

not sure if they're still in business.

they used to make nice small, top of a closet, sized model.

the same air to air heat exchanger others have mentioned here but in a more compact unit.

Clock thermostats on radiant zones?

@ December 6, 2009 7:07 PM in Clock thermostats on radiant zones?

I work for a company who has for decades discouraged the use of clock thermostats on radiant zones. Is this an industry standard or just a quirk of my boss?

I do occasionally come across a clock therm/ radiant combination installed by others.

Does it just lead to slow response complaints?

read the control/ find the air leak

@ December 6, 2009 5:06 AM in Air purge after filter service

does it have a prime feature?
where the burner would run for up to 4 minutes while trying to self prime?

I would look hard for air leaks, especially around the oil filter.
Double check the filter gaskets and bleeder port, and look hard at the strainer cover gasket as well.

Have you ever seen a check out procedure for a tiger loop?

@ December 6, 2009 4:59 AM in Have you ever seen a check out procedure for a tiger loop?

I was just wondering if anybody has ever seen a written check out procedure for a tiger loop?

I have seen all sorts of conditions where I thought it might be failing but don't know exactly how to know for sure?

No oil in the top/ then totally full/ then empty again??

top part dusty, like there has never ever had any oil through it?

both of these burners were working fine.
