Why are you so stuck on the ES2,just curious.

@ July 14, 2014 8:12 PM in Do I need a chimney liner?

its also possible that your chimney if it has cracks etc could leak carbon monoxide into your home.Codes are there to protect you.In my humble opinion I would reline your chimney.Think safety.

You are getting ES2 quotes as you will get a rebate etc.As you have an existing indirect I personally would rule out Navien for a few reasons but dont want to derail your thread. For example when I converted my house I put in a mod/con with indirect.House is 2700 sqft and boier input is 115 btu.I cut my fuel bill by 65-70%.ES2 is fine but if you do go with it I would suggest you use the outdoor reset and pipe a bypass between supply and return to stop condensation in flue.
Remember if you put in ES2 you have to reline your chimney.

thanks guys for your info

@ July 10, 2014 7:51 PM in Icesailor are you there?

I just installed a Burnham Freedom(donated by Burnham)and a 50 gallon indirect.Availability of hot water is not a problem.Judging by other houses or should I say the majority of houses I go to they branch of in 1/2 inch and feed each bathroom this way.I only saw copper in the boiler room and I dont think there is galvanized pipe in house.Delta shower bodies 1/2 inch in each bathroom.Anyhow I will be back there hopefully this weekend and find out. Before this they had a 50 gallon electric water heater so at least they can take hot showers now.I must say it is very sad to see the condition of some of these guys after they came back from their tours. Thanks again for your time and help.
Icesailor I will have water company come also.I would like a new 1inch service hopefully they will step up.

thanks mr ice

@ July 9, 2014 7:57 PM in Icesailor are you there?

yes sir,55# static.water supply is from the street.when I go back I will cut in a tee by the meter and get a reading from there.Three bathrooms one on first floor two on 2nd floor. They say when one is taking a shower and if anyone else uses water it drops dramatically.I know i have more investigating to do but I will do as you suggested. Thanks for your time and help.I took the pressure reading from the hose spigot which is 5ft away from meter. There was a few sharkbite fittings I saw on the piping not sure if that would cause much restriction.I will do as you said and report back.

@ July 8, 2014 7:18 PM in Icesailor are you there?

Need your advice on this one. Here is the situation.I just installed a mod/com with 50 gallon indirect.Feeding 3 bathrooms.House is a halfway house for vets. Before we got there they all complained about the water pressure if more than one person showers. The powers that be would like it fixed.A few people I have talked to said to use a booster pump.I would rather run larger pipes.Main is 3/4 and leaving boiler room it is 3/4 hot and cold.I think though that 1/2 copper was run to each bathroom.Pressure is 55# coming from street. What do you think? booster pump or start breaking walls and re-pipe?Thanks

@ June 30, 2014 9:34 PM in caleffi dirt seperator

week two waiting for dirt seperator with magnet.our local rep said they are not a stock item?they have to test the market to see if they will carry them or not.Pity because I have one on my own boiler and by the way im in ny not the boondocks. Its a little frustrating when the homeowner keeps asking why it is not installed many excuses can you give.I am nearly at the point where I will cut out the one on my own boiler and install on this job.Hot Rod please help or is there another company that makes something comparable. My little Monday rant sorry.

fan in a can

@ June 25, 2014 8:23 PM in boiler venting

look up field controls and size the right size fan for your boiler.when your boiler comes on have the fan wired to come on with boiler either that or make some pretty big holes in your wall

when on vacation if I bring up rads I get a scowl.I would put my daughter in the pic to try and get my wife interested but to no avail.Congrats for this achievement

@ June 13, 2014 6:44 AM in Union installation on 2.5"

why cant you cut a section of pipe out before it drops to the return then go to the last tee and cut and kafer the remaining nipple from tee.Insatall new tee with vent and use 2 sets of flanges to re pipe.Hard to explain, out of the last tee use a nipple with flange. From the last 90 before it drops use another nipple with flange.Measure distance between two flanges and get nipple with another set of flanges made up then work it into place.Hope it makes sense.

Husky coupling saves the day

@ June 10, 2014 3:17 PM in Husky coupling saves the day

hit a bad bump today, nyc roads.Muffler on truck came apart which I repaired with a 2" husky. She is still holding up but the rubber is starting to smell a bit.Whats cheaper ,a coupling a day or get the muffler fixed......

looks beautiful

the extra work is worth it,I posted a similar question not so long ago and steamhead suggested I increased the drop header to 2 1/2 in on a IN5
ChrisJ posted a beauty on his site I dont know if you saw it or not.

@ June 8, 2014 7:40 AM in Typical venting for high-efficiency wall-hung boilers?

I think we have all learned over the years about venting mod/cons.Unless stated by manufacturer polypropelyne is your best bet.If you are using chimney as a chase I like to use centrotherm.

thankyou gents

@ June 7, 2014 7:50 AM in gas range,no vent?

You all confirmed what I was thinking.Even though not required by code where I live I had to turn down the job.Customer does not want to open a wall to vent appliance.
Again thanks for your time and input.

nice bronze pump

@ June 1, 2014 9:06 AM in One of the worst-maintained oil-fired boilers we've seen
