Boiler age
@ February 24, 2011 7:04 PM in Age of Peerless Boiler Model TW-5
This boiler is JOT=TW5. It is the second generation JOT. 1992 is seems to be in the right time frame. I put many of these in in the mid 80's to early 90's.view port
@ August 2, 2010 8:36 PM in Should my view port / sight port be sealed?
Unless it is a pressure-fired boiller it does not need to be sealed. You have a draft problem or a partially plugged boiler.biofuel
@ July 30, 2010 4:30 PM in Low Sulfur Heating Fuel
biofuel will effect gaskets andeals. Oil filters are now coming with a warning not to use them with bio blends. Also it acts as a detergent. If you are not currntly trating your fuel with an additive you will have problems wth sludge clogging filters when boi is used.e-switch
@ July 26, 2010 6:32 PM in emergency furnace shut off switch location
In Massachusetts the e-switch must be in the living areaso it can be used without opening a door to the area the boiler is in.air shutter
@ July 25, 2010 6:07 PM in Riello air shutter
I have had about a dozen of these shutters fail to open, causing an after hours no heat call. I now remove them at the time of install and remove existing ones at next tune up.INDIRECT

@ May 21, 2010 11:51 AM in Gauge accuracy on Roth double-wall tank (or repriming tiger loop)?
THE TIGER LOOP WILL STILL HAVE SOME OIL IN IT EVEN IF THE TANK IS EMPTY. ALL THOSE AIR BUBBLES INDICATE YOU ARE DRY.v-8
@ May 17, 2010 7:13 AM in Peerless ect or burnham megasteam
I don't think they totally eliminated there casting problems. I have seen several v-8 failures. The mega-steam looks like a good design, but I am not selling it yet because of their past history of failuresRoth
@ May 10, 2010 12:22 PM in Advice on buying a new oil tank.
The Roth is a good tank Just make sure the installer has been certified by Roth.Prime
@ May 9, 2010 5:37 PM in priming my oil gun
If you are sure you ran out of oil, it will prime itself with one or two resets.CARLIN
@ April 20, 2010 12:23 PM in Heating system recommendations
PUT A CARLIN EZ-1 OIL BURNER ON IT AND YOUR PROBLEMS WILL BE OVERhot water loop
@ April 13, 2010 4:36 PM in Ideas for a Frozen hot water loop
Use a heat exchanger for the loop and then you can use anti-freeze in the loopwater leak
@ April 6, 2010 12:05 PM in two pipe steam leak
For some reason it takes forever for all the condensate to return. I have removed a steam boiler and returned days later to install the new one and the pipes are still dripping.Check Valve
@ March 31, 2010 4:19 PM in Im Stuck!
You don't need the check valve.Generator
@ March 30, 2010 8:36 PM in portable generator to boiler
If you are not real familiar with electricity, I suggest You hire a licensed electrician. In Dec. of 2008 We had a terrible ice storm up here in north central Mass. with massive, long lasting power outages. I saw many boiler controls along with other appliances cooked by amatuer electricians. I also saw a couple of instances where it was a miracle someone was'nt injured or killed because they did not know what they were doing.Tiger Loop
@ March 30, 2010 2:18 PM in suntecs cavitating
I install a Tiger Loop with every Roth tank. I think they have changed something in the Suntec pump and they don't perform as well as they used to.Soot Vac
@ March 29, 2010 7:49 PM in soot vacuums
Only a soot vac will stand up to the fine sulfer laced soot particles.
