Wonderful Place!
@ March 21, 2011 4:32 PM in What a trip!
I used to go to the U.S. Naval Base next to the Blue Lagoon once or twice a year, back when I was in the Air Force. Every chance I got I'd spend some time enjoying the waters there. Totally wonderful! Beautiful and hardy people. I used to see women out sunbathing when it was about 55 degrees out...what I did...
@ February 7, 2011 11:43 AM in Boiler shut-down, cons?
Bought a home with oil boiler last winter. First experience with oil. I shut it down for the summer, then fired it back up in the fall. I have electric DHW so that wasn't an issue for me. I personally didn't have any problems with doing it. I guess I could have asked my service company if it was a wise/ok thing to do? They didn't note any problems or concerns when the cleaning and inspection was done this Fall. But then again, like so many oil customers, I'm not so sure they did much in the way of "servicing" when they were here - overall none to impressed with the attitudes of oil folks I've dealt with so far...Thanks

I had propane installed for a dryer and stove this year. I have a Kidde (spelling?) co/gas detector installed in my basement where most of the piping and dryer is installed. Can anyone make a recommendation of a better detector than this unit I bought at HD. I'd be whilling to spend more if something better was available?Thanks...

Hi all,Thanks for your input - many good ideas! Putting in an additive is a darn good idea. Used to live in AK and people would park in the garage in winter; ice cold gas + heated garage = a whole lot of condensation in the fuel tank. Reverse conditions but same results. It is water on the tank, I did the paper check. It also doesn't happen on drier/lower humidity days. The garage is basement level, below ground level and was pretty cool as summer started, as was the oil. The door gets used quite a bit so quite a bit of hot air gets in. The oil has slowly warmed up and the dripping has slowly decreased. I'm thinking about putting a heater in the garage, so this hopefully won't happen next summer. Had to put a dehumidifier in the garage to keep the moisture down for the last two weeks or so. The moisture was really starting to cause some mold problems.
Damp Tank...

Hi all! First post here and first experience with a home heated by oil (I'm in western MA). Heres my problem: Oil tank is in the garage and with the high humidity it is dripping water like crazy. It is only a 1/4 full so I can't imagine how wet it would be if I filled it up. I know I can run a dehumidifier, but with the garage door being opened a lot, it seems like it will have to run hard and all summer to stay ahead of the moisture. Any tips or tricks to deal with this? Thanks!
