before I installed and converted from stack to Cad.
Maybe I should be a rocket scientist huh!?

I am a Tech

@ December 10, 2010 9:28 PM in New Controls installed and working great!

Also forgot to mention that I am an access control technician and very familiar with relays and controls for door access etc, so these controls are very basic to me, and safety goes w/o saying as I have no desire to call the fire dept.  Some would just install and hope for the best but I do my do diligence and then proceed, but if you're smart, and don't assume but study first then you can do this, I am proof...  But when in doubt call someone and be prepared to shuck out some $$$$$$$!  I coulda been a heating tech contender!!!

Safety always taken into consideration

@ December 10, 2010 9:18 PM in New Controls installed and working great!

Thanks for the advice, just an FYI I've already done the safety checks i.e pulled the cad cell leads and it shut down, also jumpered the FF terminals just for fun.  I also turned my aquastat down after my heat went to 180 degrees and it shut right down.  I also shut the oil off while it was running, and it shut right down, and I hit the lock out on my R8184, and it shut down.  WOW I did all this after I did the install, and found out online from a Honeywell tech manual about how to be a safe oil burner man without going to school! Daamn Im good.  Not your ordinary HARRY homeowner here brother!  Safety 3rd LOL!  Thanks for the advice I had already done all you suggested and more, as I said this aint ROCKET SCIENCE!  LOL!!!

New Controls installed and working great!

@ December 8, 2010 7:47 PM in New Controls installed and working great!

Hey Now!
Just wanted too say that even after several posts and no help given I was able to
do my own homework and research via the internet and reading PDF's to corectly
install my own R8184, C554A, and L4006H.  My old Ideal standard 1941 5 stage
boiler and beckett AF burner are humming like a champ, oh and I also had to
replace my 2721 628 ignition transformer.  Again thanks heating help for providing
me zero help!  Like the old saying goes, if you want something done you got
to do it all by yourself!  Ahh 180 degrees with 15PSI nice and warm and no
more faulty stack relay.  Advice to the smart doers of the world dont be
intimidated, save the money, do your own homework, this aint rocket science!!!

Push on Shark bite Fittings

@ December 1, 2010 8:08 AM in Push on Shark bite Fittings

Has anyone used Push on fittings/valves for older oil fired systems with cast iron radiators?  I am considering using them but they are only rated to 200 degrees, and my old boiler circulates water at 180.  Just want to see if anyone has any positive or negative feedback...

Honeywell Controls

@ November 24, 2010 8:21 PM in Honeywell Controls

Correction,
R8184G to a R845A.
Currently have a R845A going to a stack relay R117A which I want to replace with a R8184G.  Also have an old minneapolis honeywell external mounted LX model Aquastat in the loop.

Can I replace the R117A with a R8184G so I can then install a photocell C554A, and if so how should I terminate?  Any schematics would be appreciated.

Krazy

@ November 24, 2010 8:13 PM in Honeywell Controls making me KKrazy!

I wire door access control relays for a living and know my way around the relay world.
Also quite proficient with a volt/ohm meter, and this aint rocket science.  Was just wanting the easy explanation from an experienced person...
Thanks,
John

Honeywell Control

@ November 24, 2010 8:09 PM in Honeywell Controls

I looked at the R8182D and F model, but I have nine cast radiators in my house on a circulator, and they're on the same zone, so just putting an R4184G with photocell would be cheaper, and do the same thing.  Just want to know if the R845A can be wired with a R4184G and exactly how?

Thanks,
John

Honeywell Control

@ November 24, 2010 8:05 PM in Honeywell Controls

I have and old surface mounted honeywell minneapolis LX aquastat external mounted, wired back to my R845A and then going to my R117A stack contoller.
I would like to replace my R117A with a R4184G and use a photocell that looks at the flame and seal up my stack hole.
Thanks,
John

Must be familiar with oil fired controls i.e. R845A and R4184G.

Honeywell Controls making me KKrazy!

@ November 24, 2010 6:20 PM in Honeywell Controls making me KKrazy!

HELP!
I am really at my wits end!
I have a oil fired burner, with a R845A mounted on the rear of my boiler wired to a
R117A stack relay.  The stack is toast, and I want to replace with R4184G with
a photocell set-up, but am unsure how to connect my R845A "which runs my circulator" and a R4184G to each other.  I understand the photocell placement on my Beckett W-158124, but am going nuts trying to figure out the connection of the other two.
Thanks for the help!

Condensing boiler with indirect DHW

@ October 11, 2010 9:48 PM in Condensing Boiler with Indirect DHW

Thanks for your input, I have a design salesman coming by this week that sell the Viessmann to give me an estimate, I was wondering if you know or have networked with any reputable installation companies in my area?

Prestige System upgrade

@ October 11, 2010 9:44 PM in Condensing Boiler with Indirect DHW

Thanks for your reply,
I currently have 9 radiators, (one zone) with a recirculating pump, and 1 bath, 1 kitchen sink, and plans to add 1 more full bath. I see no need to change the one zone system for my heat, and am OK with a 30 gal indirect smart tank...

your thoughts?

Condensing Boiler with Indirect DHW

@ October 11, 2010 7:44 PM in Condensing Boiler with Indirect DHW

I currently have an old 1940's oil fired burner and a 275 gal tank both in my basement.  I also have a NG hot water heater.  My heat system is a closed recirculating hydronic system with wall recessed radiators.  1500sq ft living area.  I would like to install a NG 5to1 condensing boiler with a indirect tank for DHW.  I have been looking at the Triangle tube solo boiler and the indirect tank, I have a dealer in my area that sells the Viessmann boilers, but I am unsure of who/which is the better boiler...  I have looked at many to include Lochinvar, Weil McLain, Slant Finn, but of all the Prestige seems to be the best!?  Cost is a concern, but so is quality, and I no of no one in the Baltimore area that specializes in these installations.  Any help/advice would be appreceiated.

Thanks,
