sensor

@ April 1, 2014 5:59 PM in Riello flame sensor

heatpro, seeing as I am onsite at this building I did observe the burner fail. After gently sliding out the burner housing from the air tube I found that the sensor wire had come loose.
Cleaned the sensor and reattached the wire securely and success.
Thanks for your help/1

Riello calls it an ionization rod, and as far as I can tell there is no way of testing it, or I just do not know how to test it. What do you mean by 2.0 to 4.0?
Thanks
Paul

How would I go about testing a Riello RS 100 gas burner flame sensor? The burner is having intermittent ignition issues.
Thanks

@ April 8, 2013 5:21 PM in Colorado Monoxide Case Moves Toward Trial

At one time plexvent was the preferred way to vent boilers and it failed miserably resulting in recalls and lawsuits. PVC venting will most likely go the same way. It melts and gets brittle over time. Also most homeowners do not see maintaining their vent pipe as part of regular maintenance.

Joe, this is a design and build retrofit on new construction.
The owner went with a LG 36000 btu multi condenser split system
With two mini air handlers. He did not want to use the factory direct wall mount
unit. They want to have every thing done contrary to manufacturer specs.
That is way I would like to get the manual D.
Thanks
Paul

monitor boiler

@ November 15, 2011 6:30 AM in haventseenenough

The internal circulator has failed, could not hear the boiler flashing too much background noise. And the darn thing is so very quiet.

Does anybody know about Monitor MZ boilers? The boiler I am servicing will fire, run for a short time, about 40 seconds then shut down. It seems to be running on high limit, not flashing to steam. Boiler prv may have failed and does not provide make up water. Also the flow switch could be acting up. I put a guage on the infloor side of the system 10psi no heat exchanger. Boiler guage most likely failed, any thoughts. Thanks in advance

Are you talking about matching cfm's from the make up air and draft hood? Like a properly balanced a/c system?

pvc vs stainless or metal venting

@ October 24, 2011 6:48 AM in pvc vs stainless or metal venting

I've read about this on the wall before; Is it the pvc manufacturer who does not approve of it product to be used for venting? I don't like the stuff for purpose, bad install, but that's what the inspectors allow out here. And also allow venting to be buried in the walls and ceilings.

Southwest corner of Colorado , What is a Captiveair makeup unit? Also keeping in mind that the best way is not always the most sellable way. Sense always goes before the dollars go.

I have an odd question, a restaurant I do work in uses its swamp cooler for make up air in the winter season for the kitchen. The owner wants to condition this incoming air to keep the kitchen warmer. The warm air furnace is in the second floor of the building. My thought is to duct the furnace into the swamp cooler supply duct and use duct dampers to control the heat and fresh air. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

@ September 14, 2011 7:48 AM in flood damaged boiler

what do you do when a push nipple or a gasket fails on a boiler and floods the unit. repair the boiler or replace it. same result boiler gets damaged, controls need to be replaced, new refractory ect.mother nature vs. failure of equipment? whats the difference? all is repairable if done by a qualified service company, and or tech. 2cents worth.

@ August 2, 2011 7:45 AM in cant find this info

u should be able to get the manufacturer to supply the gas and wiring train diagrams separately. tell him its the mercaptiane that is fouling their thermocouple, give em something to chew on

try filling the old coal chamber with vermiculite and a kaowool blanket. I'm guessing this was a wet leg boiler, and fire the boiler thru the stoker door.

Boy I got lucky with my spud wrench, got a hand me down from a old timer who broke me into the trade. Still have it and happy to have it. They don't know what it's for out here in Colorado.
