Swap McDonnell MIller 47-2 with VXT 120
@ January 7, 2013 6:24 PM in Swap McDonnell MIller 47-2 with VXT 120
I want to remove my McDonnell Miller 47-2 and change it to a VXT water feeder. There are two wires attached to the #2 switch on the 47, Do I simply wire the VXT into that?
I have a model PS 800 low water cutoff already hooked up so the manual feeder is redundant with the switch.
The feeder is old and not working right so I want to change to a vxt..
Anybody who knows?
Still my favorite boiler guy

How do you say thank you to a man I discovered right here on Heating Help? What an incredible gentleman and knowledgeable to boot.
I first met Joe Kerrigan here almost two years ago when I was first trying to figure out a major two pipe steam nightmare shared between two buildings in Manhattan with all kinds of issues.
Joe figured out, patiently worked the details and we got things moving in the right direction.
Fast forward to present day and some genius has played with mu burner and suddenly a new nightmare has appeared. The burner specialist as he calls himself is nowhere to be found after some "minor" adjustments and I have half a building with no heat.
But wait,...let me call Joe....So there we are New Years eve talking about the issue and the next morning...BROKEN ANKLE AMD ALL...JOE KERRIGAN is at my building with me fixing the boiler specialists latest issue.
Unbelievable...and how do you say Thank You enough for this kind of man. He cares about his customers and cares about his work.
My hat is off to this kind of gentleman. And my thanks are not enough!!

Pilot does not blow out.Requires multiple starts to get enough gas to light the first time.
Not enough gas
Pulling it apart tomorrow
@ November 25, 2012 9:14 AM in The Mystery nobody can figure out
Maybe this is being overthought.Something has to be up with that run from the solenoid to the pilot.
There is no way to change the pilot orifice.

It is part of the gunAnd there is no way to change the orifice as it is directly part of the gun
@ November 24, 2012 10:56 AM in The Mystery nobody can figure out
Therefore you cannot change the pilot orifice. Just not enough pressure. And there is no way to change the orifice as it is directly part of the gun

Therefore you cannot change the pilot orifice. Just not enough pressure. The electrode is at spec...spoke to Midco who says 3.5c.w. is correct.
@ November 24, 2012 10:55 AM in The Mystery nobody can figure out
The electrode on the end of the gun is in front of the orifice for the pilot and without the correct pressure it wont lightNatural gas...no conversion....
@ November 23, 2012 11:56 AM in The Mystery nobody can figure out
Still a mystery...the pilot orifice is not the problem!WHAT SIZE PILOT ORIFICE SHOULD IT BE?

JUST CHECKINGGAS DROP
@ November 22, 2012 12:00 PM in Intermittent Pilot Ignition
We have a tee there and the water column stays consistent before the solenoid...after the solenoid the pressure drops.changed the solenoid and still is a problem.
MIDCO ECONOMITE
@ November 22, 2012 11:57 AM in The Mystery nobody can figure out
Everything is clean...pilot lights outside of the boiler when tested.Gas pressure is the problem
We thought of underpowered solenoid, blocked line...still no dependable pilot.
Always lights after several attempts....once enough gas gats into the system....
STILL A MYSTERY

Intermittent Pilot IgnitionI still have this problem and it seems nobody can figure it out..
Ultimately I will be changing to a new powerflame burner due to this MYSTERY!!!
Loss of pressure across pilot solenoid
I have a Weil McClain model 580 with a Midco burner.
I am having a problem with the pilot.... it lights only intermittently when the boiler calls for heat or hot water.
Everything is freshly tuned...ignition, flame rod, all electronics ignition check out and there is excellent spark
The main gas pressure is over 6in col water. The pressure before the solenoid is also 6 after a 30 inch run past the regulator. The burner calls for 3.5 in column after the solenoid. BUT....No matter what I do the pressure drops to 1.8 max.
New solenoid, proper electric feed, everything clean but can't get higher pressure so the pilot is lighting only intermittently.
This is the mystery nobody can figure out...Any ideas are welcome........help?
The regulator and meter all check out with proper pressure

I thought of the coils but when I isolate the LWCO it does not flood.Only when I let the LWCO back into the system does it flood.
Why is my boiler still flooding?
@ September 16, 2012 11:37 AM in Why is my boiler still flooding?
I have a single pipe steam system with a powerflame burner and a McDonnell Miller water feeder. The boiler kept needing to be drained down as it seemed to be overfilling.I shut off the valves and isolated the feed control which stopped the problem. I then changed the guts of the feeder with new replacement parts. Now it is happening again. Are the parts bad or is it that the feeder itself is leaking? Weird?
