Been looking at wiring diagrams for both the L8124 & the R89A. Just can't see how the 89's would pull in the burner on a call for heat. The OSTemp is 18 & getting colder so it's time to get THE HEAT ON and stop fooling around. Thanks to Bill,Ron,Ice and Paul for your help........stay warm everyone, Duff

I agree with you, thanks for getting back to me. I sent Honeywell an e-mail with my question and I'll let ya know what they have to say when and if they respond. The taco box is the right move, there haven't been any upgrades on this job for 15 years so it's long overdue, Thanks again for the help,

hi Zman
@ January 21, 2013 10:05 PM in wiring a control
4 cirulator zones, 3 for heating and one for DHW.for a storage tank.Yes I wired the new L8124C the same as what was there. I thought the relays were R845 so was gonna use the ZC and ZR but when I pulled the cover from the relay my whole idea changed.
L8124C and R89A
@ January 21, 2013 6:48 PM in L8124C and R89A
Replaced an L8124C today cause it had no h-Limit. In place are four 89A relays one of which ties into the TT & CC on the L8124C. This system will only go to high temp when the tied in zone to the L8124 calls for heat! The ZC and ZR terminals were not connected. My question ..... can these R89A relays make the oil burner run?
I can't find any wiring diagram with the L8124C and the R89A.
My gut feeling is that the relays have to be removed and a Taco switching relay box 505 be installed. Any ideas, thanks in advance, Duff
wiring a control
@ January 21, 2013 4:40 PM in wiring a control
in place on an oil fired boiler is a L8124C aq controller and all the relays are honeywell RA89A.One of the 89A relays are wired to the L8124 on the TT and the CC terminals !!!! This boiler will only go to high temp when that zone is calling for heatI'm not sure if the 89A can stay in place? Can't find any wiring diagram with the L8124 and a 89A. All diagrams are showing a RA845. This installation does have a indirect storage tank for DHW.
The ZC and ZR terminals are not connected.
I may have to just add a taco 505 relay and do away with all the 89A relays
Anyone got any ideas???
Thanks in advance, Duff

Good idea, more work but a much better job and any adjustments won't be time consuming. Thanks for the idea. Thanks TLM

You confirmed what I had already thought, thanksmonoflow tees & cast iron baseboard ?
@ December 14, 2012 4:54 AM in monoflow tees & cast iron baseboard ?
Convectors are being removed for the new cast iron baseboard. I will move the monoflow tees for the new drops from the baseboard to open up the spread between the tees. The homeowner was told by the supplyhouse that the baseboard won't work with the monoflow tees! I don't see a problem so I'm asking everyone for there input. Sooooo what do ya think? Copper main is 1 inch and baseboard is 3/4'.Thanks Duff

Finished that old WM burner today and Ice, you were right. Sometimes you have to get back to basics. Disconnected the oil line and kept setting the electrode gap and checking with a mirrior until the arc was right. Reconnected the oil and it started right up and keeps running. Sounds so simple and I was making it complcated. Thanks again,Duff
Thanks Bill

Possibly the burner was changed out since the original but the only thing I can make out is the WM logo on the front of the burner. I'm gonna take some pictures tomorrow and post them. Like they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words".thanks Terry

The boiler is 30 yrs old according to the Grandma. The boiler has no plate that can be read, other than the Weil Mc laine logo. My research tells me it might be #868 steam boiler converted for hot water 233,000 Net BTUs. My heat loss for the entire House show only 133MBH are needed. This will be it's last heat season.
