@ August 21, 2013 10:31 PM in Older HVAC Ductwork & AsbestosIn the phone book. There are pleanty of asbestos people out there. Most will try to charge double or triple for test results the next day. Just say you can wait the week or 10 days and you normally get the results back in two or three days anyway.
@ August 14, 2013 10:53 AM in Leak sealBoth Superseal, the one with the one time use hose and the other one that you can reuse a hose that is sold seperatly. Had a lot of trouble with superseal. Could not get it out of the can and stopped using it. So far with the other [sorry I can't remember the brand but in the DC area I've only seen the two ] I have been back to add freon on one. I'm not inclined to use either anymore.
@ August 14, 2013 10:29 AM in high head pressuresReal close at those Goodman coils from that era the fins are not flat. They have little perferations in them so the air passes through the fins as well as over them. Sounds like a good idea but really tuff to clean. No matter which way you hose out the dirt and lint [ why is the dryer vent always next to the condenser ] hang up on those holes.
@ July 30, 2013 9:24 AM in R134a phase out ?Anybody know if that is in the works in US. Link to article below.
That link requires some sort of sign up. The article is in Drudge and is titled

The French say 134a is a ozone killer and the Germans say France makes crappy cars.
@ July 26, 2013 8:37 AM in drier installed backwardsMade that mistake many years ago. My solution was to peel the sticker off. Nothing I could do about the word" in " stamped on the dryer shell but for the next 10 years it worked fine. And should be ok as long as the dryer descant doesn't start coming apart. Bear in mind my job was low pressure r12 system.
@ July 26, 2013 8:29 AM in yep the r- 22 joke is outGoes to about $40.00 a drum my own self.
@ July 26, 2013 8:26 AM in Condensation problemIs clogged. If it has a trap which it shouldn't, the clog is likely their. Sometimes tapping with the rubber end of a screw driver will clear it. If that dosent work give a blast of water from a garden hose up the drain for about 2 seconds.
@ July 24, 2013 7:37 PM in I was told to be patientGonna have to drink your way through it like the rest of us.
@ July 24, 2013 7:26 PM in low temp splitSure your not recirculating your condenser discharge into your in take. Is the discharge above or below the intake. If your DT is low you need to open the TEV or check for proper air flow. Too much air lowers DT.
@ July 12, 2013 9:58 AM in Hot Water InfoIs this guy his name is Dan something he wrote a few books.
@ July 12, 2013 9:43 AM in White Smoke after shutdownAll ways start with the nozzle. I guess the issue started at the end of last season and is now after 3 attempts getting corrected.
@ July 8, 2013 10:57 PM in Carrier Blower IssueDosent have a run cap. Don't think those VS oil burners have been out that long it may still be under warranty. Call Carrier direct to find out, just give them ser.# at 1800carrier.probley just the controller is bad and not the motor. If its still under warrant have them replace both.
@ July 6, 2013 5:53 PM in case grounded compressor?Getting a reading to ground because your compressor wasn't grounded. It was shorted. There is a difference.
@ July 1, 2013 10:52 PM in Condenser Fan QuestionSpeed. Turn your system "heat - off - cool " switch at teh Tstat to off. Run your indoor fan by setting that switch on your tstat to " ON ". Wait untill no more water runs out of you drain line or at least 3 hours if there is still any ice on the outdoor unit. If after that it ices up again you need to call someone in.
@ July 1, 2013 10:44 PM in 'JUMPING A COMPRESSOR' - how serious a problem is this?Sometimes better to see if a compressor will run and pump before you put that new fan or blower motor in. If on the other hand you can't tell if the compressor is running and pumping in two minutes then by all means call someone in who can.
@ July 1, 2013 10:37 PM in Bad TXV ?Need every thing RJ asked and always start with a clear clean evap coil.
@ July 1, 2013 10:34 PM in unloader5f Carrier compressors they used oil pressure to load and unload the heads. On the O6's they used refrig. pressure to overcome spring pressure and would load and unload that way. A loaded head would work like a normal recip. a unloaded head would by pass the gas back into the crankcase through a check valve in the valve plate or a bypass internal in the head or external back into the crankcase.
